Smith & Wesson Revolver Repair

I called again yesterday and they have looked at it and they have ordered a new cylinder. At least now I know that it has been looked at and I know what I'm waiting for. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to come in.

About 6 months and counting now waiting for this repair to come back. I have called and they are still waiting on parts. Was told early in the summer that S&W shut down parts manufacturing for the summer so it could be a while. The last time I called was about a week or so ago and was told they still haven't received any parts from S&W because they are working on getting the licensing to get the parts. Hopefully this is cleared up sometime soon. Definitely making me second guess buying more S&W if this is the hassle I can expect for warranty repair on a brand new gun.

Murray does great work and his staff have always been extremely helpful to me.

These revelations about S&W however really suck. A lot of us really appreciate the workmanship materials put into some of the older guns and I also have a decent number of S&W in the safe but it appears S&W has turned into producing commodity guns, does not want to support what they have built in the past and would prefer you just junk anything that doesn't work and purchase a new gun. So sad. Hard to argue though when the price point becomes such a significant factor for many.

Some years ago, I sent my GP100 to the Ruger Warranty Center in Quebec. They looked at it day after they received it. Had to replace the hand IIRC.

Total time including shipping back and forth to BC was less than two weeks.

hope I don't have this problem. I just sent my m&p22 in to get repaired.

Ya, me too. The problem in my case is getting the parts across the border. Hopefully yours doesn't require parts for the repair. Murray Charlton Enterprises has been great so far and gives me updates each month when i call to inquire about the parts. But they are playing the waiting game as well right now.

It's sad to hear S&W has such a long delay on factory replacement parts. When they do arrive though, I'm sure Murray will turn around your gun quickly. I've always had excellent service from him.

Finally got my 629 back!!!! Looks great. Now to hopefully get out to the range tomorrow to try it out. I sent it away on 20 April, and got it back today, 01 December. A little over 7 months have the cylinder replaced.

Getting parts from S&W seems to be the weak link. My 29-3 broke its trigger stud and it took about a year to get back, most of that waiting for S&W to send a new stud to Murray Charlton Enterprises. The upside was that there was no charge for the repair and it was re-blued to cover the repair to the frame. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was covered by warranty, despite being built in the early '80s.

WOW! They re blued it too? Sweet deal! Definitely worth that wait

Smith & Wesson talks a good game with their "lifetime service policy" but it really means sweet fa. Lip service and marketing, enjoy basking in the knowledge that you paid good money to a company that couldn't possibly care any less.

This is nonsense. S&W took great care of me. I told them up front that the round that broke my frame was a hand load made by me. They replaced more than the frame because they had improved certain components since my gun was manufactured. Murray Charlton did the work. Did it take several months? Yup. Is my gun as good as new? Yup.

I called to follow up on my gun once a month. They were always polite and answered my calls in person or returned messages left.

Is it possible that some folks who beeyatch about service from manufacturers create their own outcomes? I think so. Be thorough, polite and professional and my bet is that your outcome will be satisfactory.

Ouch!! I sent a couple emails to Jeff Croze the international sales manager jcroze@smith-wesson.com
I sent one Tuesday morning and that night I got the call from Murray Charleston saying my revolver was done. Seems like quite the coincidence to me.

Good move on your part; very useful to have the direct e-mail of someone at head office! I sent my Model 19 to MC a couple of months ago to have something checked out and it only took a couple of weeks, but there were no parts required.

MC seems to have an excellent reputation. He's been in the biz for ages and is apparently pretty busy. (I think they do a lot of LE stuff, too.) My only criticism in your case is that they might have "kept you in the loop" re the delay.

Ya exactly. I called them once a month asking for an update, I figured that was reasonable and not too pushy. And they were always very good about it. The big problem causing a lot of the delay was waiting for licensing to ship the replacement parts from the states. The licensing is all straightened out now so hopefully everything gets all caught up.

Had it out to the range today and everything works great.

Your opinion does not alter my reality. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...amp-W-warranty-experiences?highlight=warranty

What was it sent out for? Did it have to go to SW in the US?
it went to snapshot in quebec. the firing pin and trigger spring broke at least that is what I was told. but when I sent it in I could pull the trigger and hear a click, But the firing pin would touch the cartridge. so not sure exactly what's going on but as long as it comes back fixed I am happy.
