I have been offered an S&W Sigma series in .40 S&W by a friend of mine. Aside from looking like a Glock at a quick glance, I know nothing about the model.
It's in great shape with a low round count (sub 500), and according to the current owner, is rarely prone to stoppages.

However, I'd like to hear from anyone that owns one, has used one, or planning on getting/selling one. All opinions, comments/observations welcome......

Asking price is $500.......too much, too little?!?

Thanks!

there are those on here that will tell you they are crap. althought they will never tell you why ( my experience ) personally i liked mine and had no trouble with it. I sold mine for $350 i'd say 400 would be max. remember you can get a a new m&p for $649 and is a much nicer firearm.

They are crap. M&P is just the next generation.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I wouldn't call the sigma total crap. I've shot one on many occasions and I don't recall any issues with it. It's not a bad handgun but the trigger isn't exactly desirable. IT's not too accurate either but that's probably due to the trigger.

The M&P is a much better pistol. I prefer the trigger over the glocks I've fired and it is what I consider accurate for a service pistol. It will shoot 4'' groups with factory ammo and handloading has brought that down to sub 3'' at 25 yards benched.

I wouldn't pay more than $350.00 for a good condition sigma. At $500.00 I'd just wait until you can afford the M&P.

They where smith and wesson's answer to glock charging in and stealing all the police buiness when they first arrived. Such a close answer that S&W ended up charged with breach of patent or some such...The are functional, reasonably accurate reliable pistols...the trigger aint great and they feel like a block..but they work..they're sort of a glock really, to me they feel about the same and shoot about the same, but for some reason the seem to make glock owners froth at the mouth, as if no one in history has ever copied a sucessful design before...(how many companies make 1911's, high power or CZ 75 clones?)

500 is a bit high, i might pay 4......

Sorry, they are junk IMHO. Run away fast. I know 2 fellows who "attempt" to use them in competition and have constant problems. One has sent it back to S&W 2 or 3 times and still having problems with it.

Just buy a Glock.

Here is what I know about them from someone who had one a few years ago.
Reliable & very accurate.

However the gap between the frame & the slide put off a lot of people. Just did not look right. I also read that the barrel was such a close copy of the Glock barrel that in some cases they were interchangeable.
Might be an urban legend but I also heard that S&W lost a big lawsuit to Glock over this issue.

Based on this & what other guns $ 500.00 will buy, I think the price is high . Maybe $ 400.00 if it is in excellent shape. Parts will be difficult to get & if you sell it you won't get much for it.

My opinion only though.

I dont think they are discontinued, still advertised on there web sit and in the 2007 catalog!, Now , they promote them as someone who will like a cheap gun for self protection or as a new comer to the sport. msrp is from $419 to $427US and they even advertised a Disaster ready kit for $790.00US, they come at some store in the states for $299US!! But ,here in Kanada, they are prohibs, 4 inches barrell. We used to have a couple at my working place, a 9MM and a .40 we buy for T&E, but had broken firing pin after a couple thousand rounds. otherwise they never jam and accuracy was par with Glock.
