OK, can anyone tell me why the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 is restricted, and yet the Mossberg tactical .22 is not? Are we just looking at another example of bureaucratic idiocy? Inquiring minds want to know!

Yes the M&P is an AR verient, it has a lower and upper and uses AR parts. The Mossberg is a 702 with a plastic shell over it. The Mossberg doesn't have a charging handle or forward assist. Plus the M&P stock mag need to be pinned to 10 rounds since the mags also are for the pistol version.
Silly laws - YES!!
I've owned both versions of the Mossberg, loved how the shot/grouped. However hated the cleaning of them.
I upgraded to the SU22, Almost splits like an AR so cleaning is easy. Wish it had a changing handle, but I guess if it did, it would be restricted then!

Thank you. That explains the stupidity. I mean, it's a freakin' .22 for pete's sake! It explains the old joke, "What's an elephant?" Answer? It's a mouse designed by a government commitee!

^ you've already given this more thought than the RCMP who decided the M&P should be restricted. Absolutely ridiculous. Options are really the Ruger SR22 for an AR-look, or a Kel-Tec SU-22 for something black and a little different. Personally, I won't own another 10/22 so I'd be giving the SU-22 consideration if I decide to get a black .22.

The SU22 works great, easy to clean, has a pistol grip stock if you buy it and is wicked light. However the big dislike I have isn't with the gun, its with who brings it into the country. Who said monopolies are good? The ones making all the money and have the power!
Vault sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

some trigger parts interchange, thats it

same BS with the semi auto AR looking shotgun, variant based on looks! politically driven retards at the testing lab

Pretty sure it has to do with the fact the S & W is built off an upper and lower so parts for AR's can be interchanged.
