Hey all, I'm in the market for a .357 and I've been offered a 586. Any major flaws or concerns with these? The gun has a low round count and looks brand new, comes with hogue grips. I will sit humbly by my computer waiting for a response from the combined superforce of knowledge that is the internet. Thanks in advance for your help.

Only one issue for certain variants of these revolvers--the "no dash" and -1s were susceptible to have the cylinders lock up when firing certain types of magnum ammunition. The primers were flowing into the firing pin hole causing the problem. It was a fairly easy fix--the frame will be marked with an "M" if it's had the modification done to fix this. It's still done for free at warranty centres, or at least it was a couple of years ago. "-2s" and later are fine. Other than that I'd just look for normal revolver wear items.

I had a "no dash" 686 that I didn't bother getting mod'ed...I fired probably 1000 magum rounds over twenty years with no problems. My Dad's "-1" did jam up occasionally so he had Wortner's fix it up a couple of years ago.

I have a 586 no dash that I bought brand new in 84. 1000s of rounds through it without a hiccup. Great gun..,...... I just bought a 686 4.2 to go with it!
