SMLE # 4 unused ejector screw

I have discovered that the ejector screw on the SMLE # 4 and # 5 only works when extracting a live round frome the chamber. Empty shells will due to the strong extractor and extractor spring be throw out when the empty cartridge rim reaches the, charger clip cutout along the raceway

After further study of teh ejection of live and spend cases from the SMLE #4 and # 5, it now appears that there are two set of ejections systems. One for live round and one for spend cases ?

I forced a spend cases to "hang on" as it reached and passed the charger clip cutout, and found that the ejector screw did always throw out the spend cases, which often would flip 180 degree's without being ejected.
