smle George Armstrong is now deceased.

My condolences, he was one of the very few members here that I would've paid to hear what he has to say.

This is very sad news. My deepest condolences. His contributions to shooters and collectors, here on this forum and elsewhere were significant.

A very entertaining and knowledgeable individual. Was working down Waskada way and stopped though for a visit about 10 years back...had a grand old visit. He will be missed by a lot a folks I'd imagine.
Condolences Jan

Is this Smellie you're talking about? If so, I hope he wrote some stuff down. We've lost a treasure trove of firearms lore in the last while.

Regretfully yes, "Smellie" and George were one and the same. I spoke with George quite a few times, and recall that he was working on a book a few years back, though I cannot recall what it was on- I believe it was more political/educational than specifically firearms related. Perhaps it will surface yet.

We lost the man I considered my best friend, I will miss him greatly his funeral is Friday at one.

He taught me just about everything I know about Lee Enfields and the .303 British cartridge. I'm sorry you lost your friend Jan. May the good lord push a pizza under the sock closet door for him every now and again.

Thank you all....
Sorry I was not clear-> Smellie is one George Armstrong.
He was an expert on many subjects. His contributions to this field are legion.

No idea who he was, or any of you guys. When a loved one and/or friend passes and people mourne them, I feel that pain. Sounds like he had a positive effect on all of you in one way or another, so for that, I send my condolences.

I only once had the pleasure of meeting him at a gun show. We spoke for a bit and I chipped in on the restoration of a war trophy he was involved in. He was a good guy and sadly, us old farts are dying off but it's heartening to see the newer young shooters filling the shoes of those who pass on and keeping our sport alive.
