I have a SMLE .303 No.4 MK 1/2 (F) FTR/51.Y112 /(2.222 BNP 18.5 Tons)
I believe it to be FTR in 1951 at Fazakerly (Am I correct?) It was cut down into a hunter and bagged deer in my Dad's hands. I am thinking of replacing the forestock to put it back into original config. Two questions... can I get a replacement forstock for it? Second I need the cleaning kit oiler from the butt. What went in there and how can I find them?

Rifle was FTR'd in 1951...."Y" prefix means it was originally manufactured in 1942 by BSA Shirley. Original barrel length should be 25.25".....if cut back restocking means rebarrelling. Oiler and pull through is available......if you want one PM me. Ron

The barrel seems to be stock length it still has the sight guards. sorry I couldn't get the macro to work on me camera, here is a couple of pics... being manufactured in 42 it probably saw service! If only they could talk.

As long as the barrel's untouched, retrofitting should be easy. I'm in the process of doing that for one No4 Mk1 and two No1 Mk3.

Takes more than just the woods though; a few odds and ends (bands, rings swivels etc). All available in a few places (pm me if you'd like a few url's)

Definitely a candidate for restoration. You need a "Beech" MKII forend, both top guards, rear h/g ring and the front band. A very easy restoration. Good luck with the project.

No it won't. The trigger pull may be more consistant in the long term, but the basic accuracy of the rifle is unaffected. Most Mk. II rifles were made in peacetime, and many are in superior condition. Superior condition can contribute to better shooting.
