Hi. That's not an SMLE. It is a post war No. 4 Mk 2 that is in better than V/G condition. The stock handling dings won't affect the value.
How's the headspace and the barrel? How's the muzzle? Any dings on it?
I'd be thinking roughly the same value as Dypsnea. Maybe a bit more with proof of good headspace.
I agree with the higher end of the $425 to $500 range with a Zero or 1 bolt head. Nice, original wartime No4 Mk1's are getting a little bit harder to find these days and prices for more collectible ones are headed up. This theoretically could pull post war No4 MkII's up a bit also as people want to preserve their collector rifles and still be able to shoot. Yours appears to have the earlier style milled rear sight which may not be original. I happen to have a stamped one if that's going to keep you up at night
I believe with that serial number this rifle falls into the "irish" contract range, if the bore is in excellent condition. and based on the pics if its all numbers matching. (bolt receiver, mag, and forend) then I think the value is 550-600
The milled rear sight would be correct for a post war rifle. The milled sight was actually supposed to be standard issue, but manufacturing shortcuts had to be taken during wartime to get the rifles into the hands of the troops. I have seen several of these "Irish" contract rifles and they all tend to have excellent bores and shoot very well. Many came to the surplus market with a serial numbered No. 9 blade bayonet that was numbered to the rifle.
Most recent gun shows that I have been to in Southern Ontario that have nice condition No.4 MkI & II ones like your one, that are full wood are asking about $600+ lately!
