I've got an all serial numbers matching Isaphore SMLE circa '45 but the oil bottle is labelled LEWIS, which I don't believe is correct.

What markings should Indian SMLEs have on their oil bottles?

Yes, what he said! Any oil bottle from any Commonwealth country could be found in any L-E butt. You could easily find an Ishapore one on E-Bay if it bothers you, but it's not necessary. Some Brit rifles have parts from India and Australia, and many Ishapore rifles came right from the factory with parts from all over the place, recycled into new weapons. My 1953 Ishapore has a brass inner band from Lithgow, and a British mag.

Sounds fine to me. I hadn't even opened up the buttplate until I was down at the range and a few of the old boys were having a look around my rifle.

One of them discovered it had all matching serial numbers and then asked if it had the cleaning kit too. I said I had no idea so we pried it open to find complete and unused cleaning kit and a green tarnished oil bottle. With some cleaning up, it looks as good as new.

Anyway, the same old boys figured that as they'd just discovered my rifle was worth 4 times what I paid for it, that it should have the correct oil bottle too.

So I thought I'd ask.

May try to find an Indian one anyway. Bit geeky but hey, I've got the cleaning kit, why not the bottle. If I can find the correct bayonet, then it's complete.
