Smokin deals on Grand Power 9mm's/.22's and range reports

I have shot both and the STI GP6 version has a much, much better trigger. Add to that the fact that STI has a lifetime warranty on these guns just like all the others they sell and some of the best customer service in the industry. It seems like every time I look Grand Power has a different importer and I have to wonder why this is. I would be worried about any warranty issues due to this and if I had the choice would pay more for a STI GP6 but you know what they say about opinions. That being said I wouldn't pay $700.00 for one.

The primary issue is simple. Grand Power needs a distributor that is ready to import the entire line up of Canadian legal models, as well as maintain locally available spare parts and accessories.

Distributor implies actually working to get the product out to retailers. Having the importer selling direct works fine for very high priced and limited market items. For more mass market items, having the importer competing with his own dealer base for customers is a huge disincentive for retailers to carry that product.

Not same issue as the M&P9. 10th round goes in with a little room to spare. When you push the mag in, it bottoms on the base plate touching the frame/grips, but still does not click locked. Canuck's suggestion of sanding a bit off the bottom of the grip sounds like the easy and correct solution.

I took a sheet of sandpaper, ran the pistol base over it and took a bit off the bottom of the frame. The picture shows the before and after. I am guessing I took about only 1 mm off the frame.

Now when I insert a mag it clicks locked.

BTW, I have a K100 and an XTrim. Both have the identical issue. easily fixed. This is a super good pistol and a real bargain at the price.

Those MK12 pistols sure sold fast. By the way I hate you guys. I had the should I or shouldn't I , can't sleep moment until caving at 2am. Looks like I got one just before they sold out. Which is what I figured would happen if I waited and slept on it to decide. I really hope these are decent. The price is excellent, but only if they are a good pistol. From what I read they are good.

Better than good. Compare very well to CZ75. can use CZ mags, too, with a slight mod.

What would need to be done to the mags to make them work? I jumped on this deal too, but would definitely like to pick up some more magazines! Until the dealer situation gets clearer this could be a viable option.
 
I dont suppose theres anymore basics going to be available? since the xtrim is factory ported that would mean it would disqualify you from using it in some competitions where porting is not allowed correct? what are these made out of is it mainly metal?
 
Xtrim is not ported.


It has more aggressive ribs front and rear for grabbing the slide. The front ones are milled all the way through the slide, making it a bit lighter. i have no idea as to why this was done.

The difference s i can see between it and a mk 7(12) is a fibre optic front sight and the X has a larger mag release button on the left side only.

When the slide is off I can see that the slide internals are different, but what and why I don't know.

I have a Mk 7 and an Xtrim and to me they are the same gun, except for the front sight.

The Mk 12 (now sold out) has the latest version of the slide take down release (looks Glock-like). On the Xtrim and the Mk 7, the release is to pull the front of the trigger guard forward and down, like a Walther PPK. Take down is a snap. I have to fiddle putting it back together, because the rotating bolt has to be oriented correctly, and I don't know what the correct orientation is.

The mag notch is on the front of the mag, not the side corner. To make a CZ mag work, you need to cut a notch in the front of the mag. It would still work in a CZ. Have not tried this, but I will. I have lots of CZ mags.

I sometimes fumble with getting the barrel in right to reassemble my Mk7 too. Other than that minor quibble I really like the gun. I broke down and bought the K22S but was sorely tempted by the $449 X-Trim as well ( I mean,how often do you get 30-35% discounts in the firearms industry here in Canada??). If I hadn't ordered two guns literally the day before I saw this sale I'd would have had the X-Trim too.. I think there are going to be a lot of people very happy with their new guns!

It may actually help the new distributor in the long run if it gets more Grand Powers out on the ranges and gets them better known. The most common response I still get when I say "It's a Grand Power" is a blank look and "a what?"

I really wonder why manufacturers/importers don't do more demo days or range demos at various gun clubs the way the different ski companies travel from hill to hill during the season.. I know a local store here in NB (The Gun Dealer) teamed up with Sig this summer for one but that's the only one I've heard of. It would seem to make sense that if you are trying to break into a market you need to get the product into people's hands.

The main reasons are:

1) A range day works best when you can have someone from the manufacturer or importer on sight to field questions and if needed, help customers with trouble shooting or parts swaping on their own guns. Unless you have staff already located across Canada, that can add considerably to the cost.

2) Delivering and then returning the demonstration guns is a bit of a pain if they are not being brought by an employee of the importer. The best work around when at ranges with a commercial operation is to have an agreement to sell the demo guns for use as range rental guns. The problem with this however is not every range wants to buy one of every model after a demo day, even at below dealer pricing.

As much as there are hurdles, range days are an approach I really support and will be working on coordinating.
(Yes, if you have a range, I'm all ears.)

I didn't get to the Sig event but as I understand it they held it at a club's range in Fredericton and sent invitations to all the other gun clubs within a few hours drive (Saint John, Moncton etc etc). I heard there was a good turnout. I might be wrong but I think they worked it you got something like 5 rounds in each of 5 different models and after that they charged for ammo.,,,had a BBQ etc and made a day of it.

The first upgraded K100 was the Dynamic. It had the fiber optic front sight, Dynamic rear sight, and the bigger headed mag button. They also initially shipped with a 20 round mag. It was still based on the standard K100.

Folks liked it, but there was a demand for one more geared for match spec version. A few of our early adopters shooting the Dynamic wanted faster cycling.
The result was the X-Trim, with tighter tolerances and a scalloped slide and deleted firing pin safety.

I've had a CZ SP01 Shadow for 4 years and got an X-Calibur this spring. The X-Calibur single/double action trigger pulls were better than the Shadow (I know I can use reduced main springs, just didn't get around to doing that). Once I put grip tape around on the grip, I really liked the way it felt in my hand as well. Just picked up another X-Calibur on Friday to use as a backup for matches, and added a K22 X-Trim this morning. Think I'm going to sell my Shadow to my sister lol

The GP mags work fine in my Shadow (I believe made by the same company). For the Shadow mags to work in the GP's, you need to add a new retention hole in the front of the mag - about an inch down from the top of the mag. It's a square hole, so you would need to drill it in the right spot and then square it up with a needle file.
 
dam it to all hell. Just came across this and no 9mm ones left. I have been looking into these pistols for the past week or so and they had really peaked my interest. And fired it would be my first 9mm based on what I had read. Of course find a SWEET deal AFTER they are sold out.

Also looking on the trigger wholesale site but no prices listed. o well hope they get to stores soon with prices. But after this sale odds are prices will not be that low for a while.

The Trigger Wholesale FB page listed the X-Calibur @ $1,150 MSRP and the K100 Target MSRP @ $945. No idea what price the dealers will actually sell them for. These are great hand guns though :)

Again seeing a sale like this then the real price just makes you cringe. Also considering its a reliability unknown toy here, would expect low prices to start.


note theammosource.com has target listed as $649.00 but not in stock. If target jumps from 650 there and you say 950, that would be one hell of a price jump and would really make make me look at other options again. S here is hoping the ammo source price is right.

Didn't know they were selling them as well, would have checked them out for more mags. I think what they have listed are all Mk 7's though. Not sure if they every sold the newer Mk 12's
