NOT...I repeat....NOT a chance for the x-anti-holier than though non smokers to jump on a soapbox. Smokers only please!

If you are a smoker....do you smoke while on your stand? How do the deer react? does it make a difference?

Just picked up on a comment from another thread...so I'm curious.

I don't smoke and if I did I probably wouldn't smoke in the deer stand but I would think with the increasing amount of pollutants in the atmosphere these days ..... having a clean air environment within the vicinity of you and your hunting ground makes less & less difference nowadays.

im an ex smoker...this will be my first moose and deer hunt without a smoke..
but..im sure the smoke will scare the odd animal away...but every year i always had game in front me..and this is after smoking a pack a day out in the bush...
so my vote is no the smoke dont bother them that much

you in a ground or tree stand...?i was always on a ground stand

Minimum 12 feet off the ground

Last outing was new to me...had a dogger while I stood and waited....saw 2 moose but no deer...except on other camps poles

I climbed up in one of our apple trees a few months ago and as I was picking a few apples a doe and three fawns came under the tree to eat some windfalls. I decided to have some fun and dropped an apple I was eating on the backside of the doe. It scared the Pi$$ out of her/them and she reared up and took off ..... but then stopped and realized with natural occurance/gravity and all ..... came right back.

Then she went over to the apple I dropped .... sniffed it and went beserk and all four of the took off like rockets ...... gone! ..... might have something to do with the Bacardi the night before.;)

When I was still smoking I used to smoke on stand, and killed a lot of deer too. If the wind is in your favor it isn't going to make a lot difference. If you smoke in your vehicle all the way to your hunting area there is enough stale smoke in your clothes that a non smoking human can smell you clear accross a room. A little more fresh smoke isn't going to make much difference, but is unlikely to help either. This last part is subject to debate too. A lot of early deer hunting books listed tabacco smoke amoung the list of possible deer attractants along with sardine oil and ammonia.

Smoking ban ......

.... there's a bill all ready tabled to ban smoking in the deer blind/stand .... C-4/1 I think

i try to avoid smoking in the stand but after an hour or two of just sitting there you get bored as hell and well masturbation causes to much movment and noise so i light up

Playing Computer Games while on Stand

Hi Guys,

My son was on a stand last year, and I was wondering why he wasn't taking a shot at a deer which was close by. I could see it but me son apparently could not. He confessed later that he was playing games on his Rino 120.

My son is a good hunter, and just like the old man, he loathes just sitting on a stand. Both of us would rather do the spot and stalk routine.
