Smoking on your stand....do you?

A few years back I had a brought a friend along to videotape a bear hunt for me. I had a nice red phase bear hanging around my bait and I wanted to get the kill on tape.

My buddy is not a smoker, but on this particular evening he decides to light up a Backwoods cigar while we're in the stand. I look at him like wtf are u doing and he just smiles. He's a far more experienced hunter than I am so I figured I guess he knows something I don't.

After he finishes his cigar, he breaks out a bag of friggin corn nuts and proceeds to crunch away. Again I'm like wtf are you doing. Again he just smiles.

We had several bears come in, and my red bear did eventually show up. So I can't say for certain how much it keeps the animals away.

somehow smoke strikes me as a more "natural" scent, even though im a non smoker, i dont forsee a problem with lighting up a couple in your tree stand, if the winds being nice to you, even less of a problem. However your hacking cough may give you away :)

My brother in law always has a smoke in his yap when he shoots moose.....I think it covers the smell of his diesel fuel stained coveralls......

I climbed up in one of our apple trees a few months ago and as I was picking a few apples a doe and three fawns came under the tree to eat some windfalls. I decided to have some fun and dropped an apple I was eating on the backside of the doe. It scared the Pi$$ out of her/them and she reared up and took off ..... but then stopped and realized with natural occurance/gravity and all ..... came right back.

Then she went over to the apple I dropped .... sniffed it and went beserk and all four of the took off like rockets ...... gone! ..... might have something to do with the Bacardi the night before.;)

lol... now that is funny! :D

7 year's ago, I went hunting with a friend and we were both smoking and my buddy got a nice doe coming directly at us. So no, I don't seem to think cigarette smoke bother's them the least ;)

I don't stand hunt, but often stop for a smoke/snack when spot&stalk or still hunting.

As for the idea that smoke is a natural cover scent, even I can tell the difference between cigarette smoke and fire smoke... so many friggin chemicals in cigarettes I can smell... I'm sure the animals can too.

Anyway, wind in your face, sun to your back... smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

depends on the tabacco there are some smokes*cough cough ziploc bag package* that are virtualy free of the harsh chemicals that are found in over the counter store bought smokes. the scent is much better then the typical comercial grade tabbacco seems liek they use less chem's in the processing/drying
