For Smoothbores id maybe look into the "made in India" models people have mentioned before. Theres no particular company im aware that claims ownership of them... they seem to simply exist and youll see them pop up at various locations, and gun shows across the world. Many reenactors i met in UK used India made Brown Bess muskets and spoke highly of them. Maybe Loyalist arms has them ? Maybe Dixie Gunworks, I know Things Military in Calgary AB carry tons of Indian Smoothbores that dont have the touch holes drilled for "ease of import" ?? When i was looking to aquire a Brown Bown Musket, i got scetched out by the notion of trusting my life to Indian craftsmanship and bought a Used Pedersoli off CGN. Since then ive met plenty of Indian Musket owners that swear by them.If the Traditions rifles are crappy, are there any other alternatives at a similar price point? The Traditions kit is ~$500 (Saw 'em on sale at Cabelas a week or two ago for under $500) whereas the other kits I've looked at over on Track Of the Wolf are more like $900USD++.
I see Track of the Wolf has some Investarms kits for sub-$600usd, but they're out of stock so who knows how up to date that price is. Does anyone else make a kit in that kind of ballpark, or is there nothing worth bothering with until you get up above the $1k price point?
Id possiby buy other Traditions models like a percussion cap gun. I just learned first hand that their Flintlock designs are barely adequate. Fine as a wall hanger and something to shoot a few balls out of at the range with. But once you want to shoot more then a just a few balls youll be cussing the thing and doing scetchy stuff to clear the barrel of loads that wont fire.
