Smooth slug barrel question...

I recently purchased a smooth slug barrel for my shotgun and was wondering if it would get damaged if i shot bird shot threw it?

I was thinking that on my way to the tree stand and a grouse just happened to be close i could shoot him/her and then keep going to the stand.
 
No problem shooting shot out of a smooth bore slug barrel . as it is no different that the longer smooth bore barrel .other than its equipped with rifle sights.
 
Isn't the point in going to a stand to hunt deer to be quiet? Shooting grouse on the way seems like a surefire way to scare off all the deer.

From where i park my truck to my stand is around half a km, don't think it will matter. When i went grouse hunting last fall i walked the same path, shot 2 grouse and saw three deer when i got to the stand. Either the deer are fearless or suicidal.

Or, like some wild deer I have seen, they have no association of firearms noise with danger. They are likely somewhat used to other human noise and will tolerate things that seem normal and have not posed danger in the past. I am not sure what they think it is.....
 
No problems shooting shot in a slug barrel,and it can give a somewhat ok pattern.Some smoothbore slug barrels are choked a bit, my 20" rifle sight remington is improved cylinder and has killed many grouses.
As for noise, couple of years back I was hunting with my 12ga sxs with a slug in one barrel and shot in the other. Walking a cut line I took a shot at a bunny only to notice a brown spot comming towards me in the cut line, I shot a nice spike right there. Two shots in less than 3 mins.

The range I go to has woods all around, have watched deer walk on the side of a hill while shooting, not a care in the world
 
Big game animals aren't disturbed by gunfire to the degree people imagine. I was sighting in last year, had a little forkhorn step out beside the 200 yd target and look around wondering wtf all the noise was about. Not the first time something like that has happened either.

Hunting in a gang I tend to frown on it because nobody knows whether you're shooting at a deer or just making noise.
