Snapping the cylinder closed on a revolver

I find flipping the cylinder close helps me to look cool and I get all pumped up at the range when I do it. I pretend like Im some sort of old school dirty harry type and play tough guy for a bit. Then its off to my security job protecting the civilians. I just wish they made revolvers that werent so shiny. I prefer synthetic, and flat black it is more tacticool.

flat black krylon paint, all the cool mall cops use it!:dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

Yes that's also a Hollywood thing. By drawing the hammer back slightly you can drop the cylinder stop to allow the cylinder to spin freely. It is in THIS position (and not in the open position as seen in every movie) where the ratcheting BZZZZZZZ sound comes from as the extractor star drags along the hand which spins the cylinder. Not good for it either, but less damaging than slapping the cylinder closed. Sure sounds cool though. ;)

Jerry Miculek demonstrates the advanced cylinder spinning technique:

So dropping it in a bucket of strong acid for a month wouldnt be as bad. Or taking a torch to heat it red hot and then throw it in a bucket of ice just before tossing it into a wood chipper wouldnt be as bad as snapping the cylinder shut.

Im just saying .........

And who would be a dumbasses f%&ktard to do something like that?

Not part of any kind of use so in my mind not even applicable in jest......

I'm just sayin.....................

Nope. Revolvers are made for that kind of abuse. Just don't snap the cylinder shut. :D

There was no qualifier to "normal use" in that sentence. It simply stated that snapping the cylinder was the worst possible thing one could do to a revolver . PERIOD. End of sentence.

I'm just pointing out that I can think of loads of things that are worse. If we must limit ourselves to "normal useage" then how about grossly overloading it with too fast a powder? That might be worse than snapping the cylinder shut. Or maybe forgetting to put powder in a case which would drive the bullet into the lands and then firing a second shot after the first had plugged up the barrel? That HAS to be worse than snapping the cylinder shut?

The point I am pointing out is that people say stupid #### like "thats the worst possible thing you can do" when it isn't even remotely close to the worst possible thing one can do. It is just one of my pet-peaves.

One of my pet peeves is internet blowhards that argue semantics and don't know how to spell "peeves" correctly. Are we even now?
