Snider butt markings help, please.

Pal turned up today with his three-band snider II**, lock dated 1863.

On the right-hand side of the butt was the usual Enfield cartouche, but the left side has me stumped

It has D C - no diamond - over G V A.

Significance of the G V A anybody?

Thought that might be it, but which one? My own two-band short rifle is from Québec, and is clearly stamped as such - Q G A.
