Along with my new Snider came this leather.

It may be period to the rifle, I don't know. I'm still at the start of my learning curve with pre 1900 webbing/leather.

So I'm hoping that someone here may be able to give me the low down on this cartridge pouch and shoulder straps.

It has sort of a "patent" leather sheen to it. The brass is all solid. The screws look replacement to me, but I dunno.

I've enclosed shots of the markings/engraving on the inside of the leather.

The leather appears to have the appropriate age related, cracks and splits, and the brass also seems to be age appropriate "patina".

Any help/info on this stuff appreciated. And naturally, if there are questions that need answering, ask away.

Thanks guys!

Sorry but its a Chilean Mauser cartridge box for the Model 1895 Cavalry carbine. International Firearms had them about 20 years.

Nothin' to be sorry about.

I've had a look through google to try and find some supporting pictures, etc., do you have anything/anywhere that can show same?

I am dating myself, but I have sold some of these in the past. It is also discussed in a German book on military accoutrement published a few years ago. Do not really know of anything covering it on the net however.

Look for: Patronentashen, Patronengurtel und Banduliere 1850-1950 by Alfred A. Kruk. Only problem its in German, lots of pictures however.
