Hi folks,

I recently acquired an unmolested DC(Dominion of Canada:)) stamped 1862 Enfield Snider Enfield(II*, with BSACo marked trapdoor), but I could use a little help with the unit markings stamped on the top of the buttplate. It reads

CT
2
211

Any ideas on the unit? With "Louis Riel Day" on Monday (at least in Manitoba), it would be delightful to know that I had a rifle from that action! Wishful thinking, I know, but a large part of a rifle's value, to me, is in it's history. The more the merrier! Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the "CT" marking. Could it be "GT"? This would make more sense. Then you would have a rifle marked to the Grand Trunk Railroad 2ND Battalion with a rack number 211. They were formed to guard the railroad line along the St. Lawrence River to fend off the Fenians after the US Civil War.
