has anyone built or have one here in Canada I have a mk2 star action sitting around that was going to get a trade gun barrel but seeing the pistols around some nice some not so nice gave me an idea.

the idea would be to have a .577 snider cartridge pistol with around a 12" barrel sort of like a single shot howdah pistol something that can be toted around in the woods while hunting and used as a backup if needed .

id think a smoothbore barrel would be ok for round ball and birdshot(pesky squirrels).

chances are this project will be on the back burner for a long time and my mind will probably change by then as I've been waiting till I get a lathe and some practice to play with this but its one of the ideas my mind came up with one I couldn't sleep one night after seeing the one IMA had(and I wish I bought ).

How is the barrel held into the action on a MkII ? Threaded?

Snider barrels are threaded in. Have to double check, but I think they are 1-14 V.

their threaded in on British conversions. only one that I've seen that were not were Japanese conversions and even then its only some that they cut the breech of the musket and brazed on parts to hold the breech block.

yeah the Khyber pass rifles are unsafe the fact that most of the Khyber pass martini pistols have material removed from behind the knuckle is not a good thing and not something id shoot even remotely.

the knuckle takes all the pressure from the cartridge firing in the martini system removing that amount of steel behind the knuckle is a good way to have the receiver stretch and split Khyber pass guns are usually junk anyway and shouldn't be more than wall hangers

I think the bottom 2 are made by Polar_Hunter he has been PMing me about them.

I really like the idea I think it would be great if a put down shot were needed or a back up incase a black bear wants to get friendly I think id use a .580(24ga) smooth bore barrel chamber it to take standard .577 snider rounds and use either round ball or birdshot for a handy little game getter id still like around a 12" barrel though just to get some velocity
