Snider Savvy Gunplumber?

Lookin for a gunsmith that can check out a Snider for me to see if its safe to shoot.Its a 2 band rifle with some slight pitting in the chamber bore is really nice.Dave

Depends where you are located. Canada is a very large country.......If you lived in Comox and I told you THE Snider maven lived in Corner Brook you'd be peeved.

Dave: Consider getting some bore photos (including chamber, obviously) and posting them here or on British Militaria Forum. Lots of Snider shooters using equipment of a very wide variety of conditions and you might get all the advice you need. Personally the only Sniders I have that I don't shoot are rifles with very sloppy breech blocks (ie a lot of front to rear free play). Some pitting in the chamber doesn't sound too serious. My most accurate Snider is a commercial 3-band by Webley with pitting in the bore that might surprise you. Regarding gunsmiths and antiques, my philosophy is that if I see enough to concern me with a particular rifle I simply won't shoot it. With some Sniders having wrought iron barrels as old as 160 years, I'm not entirely sure what a prudent gunsmith would do to certify one safe to shoot.
