Goodday all,

Well, I picked up a rather beat up old snider at the Truro Gunshow today.

No rear sight, no cleaning rod, bore pretty dirty, some dings in the wood, no firing pin, the hammer chipped due to being dropped with no firing pin present, the firing pin hole damaged for the same reason. A general patina of rust and age, and some incorrect bolts present.

Those are the problems with it. Nothing really all that bad for a rifle I plan to hang on the wall and look at.

That said, does anyone have a link to a site that might be able to tell me a bit more history on the rifle? It was sold to me as an Antique, no registration required (so noted in the dealer's log)

I'm gonna go try my google-fu, but it's been weak lately.

It should have some regimental marks on the stock which would tell a story...if it's military. The short rifle has all iron furniture so there won't be any marks or numbers on the tang of the butt plate. Interesting that it's a Mark1! Are there any stars behind the "1"? The lock plate should be marked with a Crown and the makers name and the cifer of the reighning monarch. I have listings of the military marks which denote the units they were supplied to. Also, if you need any help or parts you should try the British Militaria Forum. Don't give up. Dave
