Sniper Rifle Heaven

Clint would be good for Bob's dad, but Bob the Nailer is far too young of a character to be played by Eastwood. I am sure Wahlberg will do just fine, so long as the script is written right. He's a good actor and has done some pretty cool roles. Planet of the Apes not included ;)
No movie is ever going to be as good as the book, unless the book is written so simply as to allow direct translation into a movie. In rare cases the movie is better than the book, but only when they completely redo it for the movie, and often times, while better, it's not really the same story. Books contain far more detail and character interaction then you could ever squeeze into 2hrs of film time. Small things that occur at the same time and can take 2 chapters to reveal in a book, have to be cut and simplified to make it into a 1 second screen time.
Hopefully they simply stay true to the general idea of the story and character and give us plenty of gun booty to look at. And from the sounds of it, the gun booty is already assured.

That's too bad. Sounds like he had no control over this one.

Is it still the Vietnam war? With Marky Mark being so young, maybe they changed it to the Iraq war to appeal to a younger audience...

As far as I can tell, there is no military background. I believe he plays an ex police sniper who accidentally kills an innocent person then goes into exile. Don't quote me on that though

I wrote Stephen Hunter about the upcoming movie, and here was his reply:

"between you and me, you'll probably be disappointed in it. I have no control and the script has made considerable alterations to the original.
Black Kings are entirely fictitious. SH"

That is a crying shame with him having very little control over this project, it also answers the question on the Black Kings.
