Sniper rifle on "shooter, the movie"

im not good at eyeballing but i have seen the calibres beside each other and a 50 cal seems kinda big to secretly pass hands like that lol may have been different calibre

How many times is this now we've gone over this movie?? I find it funny every time it comes up though. Personally I found it funny talking about flight time of the bullet when they were scoping out possible sniper angles.
The comment was made about the 408 not being able to puncture the been can; I don't know about a 408 but to give you an example a 338LM AI travel at a muzzle vel. of 2930 out of the barrel is still traveling at 1374fps at a mile and has 1257ft/lbs of energy as well. I'm think'n the can of beans would still sustain huge damage. As far as hitting it, good F**k'n luck.

And like its already been said. Its a movie, enjoy it for what it is and be done with it. Its for entertainment purposes and the rifles looked sweet...kudo's to you longshot as from what I recall, you did the paint work on them.

I thought there was a .50 at the start? hmm gonna have to watch the begining again I guess.
my favorite part is the credits where I can see Longshots name, I get wood everytime I see that.

The 408 would certainly pierce the can of beans. However, the pointy, solid brass bullet would probably not even bulge the can as it passed through.
Of course, in the extra features on the CD, we have some clown talking about arms and legs being blown 20 feet by such longrange weaponry. Must have been talking about artillery rounds of some sort.
On the other hand, my wife liked the movie just fine. Regards, Bill.

Its a movie not a training film, take it for what its worth, entertainment. The majority of the public are not gun enthusiasts and have no clue. No different than the CSI Shows and all the ER/Grey's Anatomy type shows. I am sure all the real docs and forensic cops no doubt shake their heads at those shows as well. Who cares they are just tv shows and movies.

your quite correct, actuly they have stopped doing a few things since the pros told them not to, it was getting hard to convit the criminals in real life becuase the shows BSed a few things, like pouring latex in a stab wound to get an imprestion, or how spit will allways get the raper or murderer in the last 5 min, too many people out there just dont get the fact that at the end of the show it says this is for entertanement. acouple of time in real life jurys have let the guy how did it walk becuase CSI makes it look really easy to come up with the evidence. afterwords when asked why they let him go when it was so clearly the right perp, they start quoting CSI, not realising that that is a show, not a documentry, unfortunitly alot of people think the same way about guns, the movie showed it so it must be real.

ok thats my 8 am rant :50cal:

All this talk and noone talked about the 22lr ammo bang flopping the bad guys at 200 yards.

BTW it was a can of stew at 1 mile and a big one at that. :)

It may be a dumb movie but it still beats watching beaches or some other estrogen fest.

by a mile

^ i just figured he was a really really really good shot and was able to put that 22 right into the spot the chick hits the guy in miami vice- insta death

The book "point Of Impact" for which the movie is based on is much better and more believable, first off they said they had recovered the bullet that was fired at the can, how would they find it not knowing he had made a shot in the first place. Second I don't think snipers would switch shooting back and forth from left to right side as he did in this movie.

I think switching sides would be a requirerment, as would be shooting with the gun canted. You have to make use of the cover right.

Unh, Yeah, exploding limbs, 308...

...where do I buy those explosive 308 rounds, I wanna make sure the moose STAYS down!!!
