Hoping for a consistant 3 moa rifle, so far its looking promising. basicaly front and rear steel pillar bedded, with a front bedding block installed on the barrel, and one bolt ran through the trigger group into the bottom of the reciver in the rearward portion. Now for the optics mount is a weaver shotgun convertamount, made my own base for it as I didn't want to bolt an aluminum part on the rifle. happy with how it turned out that is for sure, using 6mm screws instead of the supplied 10-40 hardware as I don't have a tap. base is bolted on with 4 8-40 weaver screws and red locktight. The stock forend is not touching the cap as per oem, with the bedding block it must be lifted strait in and out of the stock so shaved er down, slimmed down the part where the bayonet hides in, it looked goofy. Removed the bbl from the reciver and pressed off all the pinned on bits, cut er down to about 19" and cut the rearward portion of the front sight off to be rid of the bayo lug and make it more natural looking. other than it was tight as hell in the threads all the rest of the bbl work was time consuming but easy. cut out part of the ejection port and now the shells seem to be thrown sideways, a quick check firing 20 rds with a old 4x scope confirmed no impact with scope. have this one on the way : http://www.amazon.ca/BARSKA-1-25-4-5x26-30-mm-Euro-30-Riflescope/dp/B001JJCHU2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388343735&sr=8-1&keywords=1-25-4-5x26-30+rifle+scope

Defiantly gonna be playing with the gas system. Thinking of a needle valve in the port. Launches the brass bout 20feet to the right still. Otherwise I think allot of shot to shot issue is the stock fit... keep the thing from moving back and forth and well you have a good starting point.

How are you going to fit a needle valve in the port, and what do you hope to achieve by doing that ?

Likely take a 4mm allen screw and come in from the front at a 45degree angle to intercept the gas port hole For A less violent cycling action. I would think there is a good deal of bbl whip from all that thrust.

If accuracy is your concern, then why not just temporarily disable the gas system altogether ?

I drilled a few 3/64" holes 1/8" from the front of the gas tube ( on the tube itself) and that has drastically reduced the cycle action. My brass typically is throwen about 2 to 3'. Makes for a nice smooth cycle.

Well a plug in place of the piston will result in the same or more thrust on the gas block I would suspect? A yugo 59/66 gas block would work nice however. But my goal is accuracy as a semi auto.
It's always interesting to me to see someone take on the SKS for improvements.
Changing the stock barrel to a custom will net the best results. Even an old .308 Match barrel that has given up it's top accuracy could be recontoured and fitted. Groups will tighten considerably. Looks like you have the tools to accomplish it.

oh if only the trigger could be a bit more crispy.
This is at 110 yards, it was windy as hell yesterday, s&b soft point brass case ammo. Not gonna run a scope on this gun, just stick with the irons or rds cause I hate thumbing rounds one at a time.

Nice work on the SKS. I can't believe you're abandoning the scope this quickly.

If you want the best results, you are going to have to work on that trigger, use a scope and handloads IMO.

Thats a very respectable group for an sks, nice job.

Have you done a trigger job yet? If you havent you might want to check this out, its a little long but it gives you all the info you need to do it right. http:// sailorcurt.com/category/sks/
