I loaded all the brass I had with 180gr hard cast bullet in 40sw.

I had about 20% half seated primer (Lee Pro 1000) and the first 15 was too much crimped I guess. The resizing die was like 1/8"+ over the shell holder when I was seating bullet so I had to remove the seating die and set it up right. It was shaving lube/lead from the canelure so I guess it was crimping before even seating.

I only did 3 load (4.2, 4.5, 4.8gr) which are under Minimum load (min. listed by Lee and Hodgdon are MAJOR load).

It was nice to do, not "fun" but not a pain.

Next will be to do the 1000 case that are going to be here next week ;)

The bottom of the dies should just kiss the shell holder with the ram all the way up then tighten the locking ring. Then you adjust the deprimer rod so it pops out the old primer when the ram is all the way up. Install the seating die the same way then adjust the seating rod to get the desired OAL. There's a lot of trial and error in this step, but only with one or two rounds. One to get it to where you think it should be and one for testing.
"...shaving lead..." Likely needs a tick more belling of the case mouth. Just enough to be able to sit the bullet in the case, but not so much that the case won't fit into the seating die. Adjust the seating die's expander rod down a wee bit more. You should be able to put the bullet on the case and have it sit there out of the die.
"...half seated primer..." I've always seated primers as a completely separate step. No die in the press at all. Make sure the primer pocket is clean and free of tumbling media. Don't be afraid to reef a bit on the ram.

Well the problem with the shaving head was because the seating die was so low, the expander die wasn't able to flare it enought. once I had the seating die corrected, I was able to have a bit more than 1/8" deep flare and the bullet was able to sit in the case easy.

Half seated primer was because once you have the ram up, you need to push it again so it seat the primer correctly. My cases wasn't pocket primer cleaner (Ultrasonic cleaner with the primer still in it).

If I had a better bench (my current computer desk would be perfect (1"+ thick), I would be able to reef the ram more, but the old computer desk I'm using as bench is like 1/2" thick and flex a bit.

I had also some problem with sometimes the resizing die was hitting the edge of the case. I need to "push" the edge in so it slide in the die. My case slider is broker and waiting for the new one to come from lee it might fix that.
