So..............did you get one?

Yessss! Exactly as I expected it to be: light yet robust. This is the type of gun that gives you confidence in combat. Sorry guys, but I've cracked a smile when I read some "complaints" that the finish is not jewellery perfect, stuff like that. I leave that "top looks demand" for my sporting clays Beretta. This is a real combat rifle; well, a semi-auto-only sister but otherwise exposing the same indifferent roughness.

I couldn't help and installed the bayonet right away. The bayonet on my AKM's muzzle saved my ass from a pack of aggressive and quite decided stray dogs, one night on guard duty during my military service (E-Europe). To fire, even a warning shot, would have meant a bunch of problems: reports, investigation, commission, etc. As well, I had it always on when I was in the honour guard. (Plus it was a perfect can and beer bottle opener.)

I'm very impressed. Sure the machining isn't polished perfectly smooth like the CSA's. But this is a military service rifle! The fit of the receiver cover for example is much tighter yet the pin pops out much easier. compared to my CSA. And i bet my railed dust cover will fit on this unlike the CSA. as it's built to the proper specs.
The mag pouch and mags look un-issued. But the bayonet has opened many spam cans and hangs a little to the left.
Very cool that cz sends a test target with the rifle.

Picked mine up today.

3 magazines look like the have never seen a round.
1 magazine has seen maybe 20 rounds fed from it.
Mag pouch, sling and bayonet scabbard are new
Bayonet looks unissued.

Rifle looks very clean, full front sight hood. Honestly the rifle seems like it's new as far as I can tell.

Thanks again Wolverine

That's exactly how mine looks. It is awesome thx also wolverine.

I have not read the whole thread. Im just wondering if any pinned drum mags are still available? Anyone with a pic of their 858 with the pinned drum mag?

Well that sucks the big one. Though must admit, she made pretty good time by arriving last night. She sits about 19 miles from me in Richmond sorting center, waiting for shipment to a Surrey sorting center and then out for delivery to me. So close yet so far. Monday it says. Would be a bureaucratic nightmare if I drove into Richmond to try and pick it up today so can only sit back and be patient.

I need a new pistol grip. The Czechs musta been enlisting midgets cuz literally half my hand hangs past the bottom of the grip. Anyone have some recommendations?

Lol, the smaller guys got put as tank crews so I really dont know what the rationale behind that grip was to be honest. There's a few options, the FAB defense one looks pretty good and looks to be superficially similar to the stock one that the CSA rifles come with. I replaced my CSA one with an MOE AK grip I modified which is an option as well. Or I could sell you my old CSA grip....

Man oh man! This thing is sweet, the rifle is flawless. Mine has the closed sight (hole cut in the top for the night sights) with a nice uniform set of beaver barf. The mags are all what appears to be brand new, along with the pouch. The bayo and scabbard have lots of "character" though, and the test target looks like there were enemies charging over the hill while they were doing it, but I am well pleased regardless.

I'd like to thank Wolverine for the sale, I know not everyone got what they wanted, but they made the process as fair as possible for everyone. So thanks to Wolverine for sticking up for gun owners all over Canada, and holding fast to continue importing these one last time. Cheers! I'll be at the range.

ok guys:rolleyes: ask a gunsmith.

Im pretty ignorant here but would't 223762 have to be right since how would they actually make a block of metal without casting it, regardless it has to be cast from something that wasn't a block to make a block and then be milled into receiver or whatever else, just a thought as I'm certainly no gunsmith.

Thats sophistry. Of course any metal would have to have been melted down at some point prior to the shop receiving the material but that is not the same thing as when parts are defined as "cast", "cast then milled" etc... When you pour a lead bullet into a mold, that is "cast". If you then take that casting and mill something out of it that is "cast then milled". There are other methods of creating raw blanks such as extrusions, forgings etc... Note the current hoopla south of the border of the "100% made in america" AKs with a bunch of cast parts where they arent supposed to be, such as bolts etc...

EDIT: Apparently there is info floating around the net that the receivers for vz58 since the 60s were investment cast then milled. It contradicts other info I heard, and am unsure if it is correct or even if it applies to our semi auto civilian receivers from either CZ or CSA. Not that its necessarily a bad thing anyway, if done properly.
