so excited for my new scattergun!!!!

I have a Winchester Defender 1300 and I believe they used to call them RIOT guns. Just wondering if this term Scatter gun for shorter versions or are they one in the same?

Riot shotgun is more of an old school term for short barreled shotguns ; the catch term of today seems to be Tactical shotgun....
 
Nice gun but expensive, here's mine, different marking since it's an older gun (before Wilson bought them), as you can see, i prefer the shorter one :

Re kicking like a mule - watching you shoot it, I would say that the felt recoil is due to how you are holding it: keep it tight, get a good cheek weld, have your shoulders & feet square(r) to the target and lean on it a bit.

Ohh and slug&pump shotguns aren't exactly the softest kicking combo either ;)
 
OMG I LOVE LASER BORESIGHTERS!!!!

I just bought my first one at Bulls Eye London a couple of weeks ago...

Finally tried it on my Scattergun and i am happy to report the laser is BANG ON top of the front sight (unfortunately my camera cant pick up the laser)...confirming that it was shooting high because of the way i was holding it. I have an idea that may help...i will get lower profile hearing protection, perhaps electronic ear buds and that might help me get a better cheek weld.

As suggested squaring up your stance to the target will help you get a lower cheekweld as well.
Good to confirm that your chamber is lined up with the sights, I wonder if the muzzle is as well...... at the end of the day once you figure out your cheekweld you can adjust the sights if needed easily enough.
 
Shooting high relative to their point of aim is truly the bane of all riot/tactical barrel length shotguns.
This is why one will observe some Remington 870 police style shotguns, with the factory bead mounted on a pedestal, versus a bead only mounted on top of the muzzle.
You'll have to adjust your sights I guess.

Kicks hard? Well you already have a recoil pad, so just m@n up or maybe buy a semi-auto M4 instead. ;)

now that you mention it, i have done some more research on boresighters...what do you think is better, the chamber feed type or the ones that mount at the end of the barrel? I plan to get one for my incoming .223

thanks but i already have a Benelli M4..one of the first ones in the country, straight from Italy (marked LE on the receiver) :) (pic earlier in this thread)

I am just used to shooting pistol grips i guess

I haven't used them much, but my buddy has one that attaches at the muzzle, good for getting on paper quick but you still need to shoot to fine tune.
