.... and tried my hand at painting my stock.
Theres definately a knack to using an air brush and I need much more practice, but for now it'll have to do
I went the "El-Cheapo" route and just sprayed the Krylon camo from the can into the small glass pot on the air-brush - it worked great, the paint sprayed very easily and even with the cheap air-brush there was a surprisingly wide amount of control of the spray pattern. The flaws you can see in the paint job were from me not keeping a consistant distance or speed while spraying.
For $10-$15 (available at Kambodian Tire or House of Fools) I recommend picking one up just to play around with.
Good paint job. It's not easy getting the right paint/thinner consistency. Did you use model acrylic enamel on it or something else? I've used an airbrush for painting models for years. If you find the finish too shiny, try some layers of dullcote.
