So this is my first handgun purchase.
I bought it online.

What’s the next steps do I need to do?
I’m a little confused about the ATT process.

Pretty sure the ATT's are still auto linked to your restricted PAL, to and from home and the range is covered, not sure if gunsmiths are still covered or if you need to apply for a short term authorization, like what you would need if you were going to take it to the post office and send it somewhere.

Have you received the gun and registration card?

Once the transfer is approved, the retailer will be able to ship it to you.

As it is your first restricted you will get a new pal with ATT conditions added, and a new number at the end, .0002 for example. The first numbers will remain the same.

When you get it you need to wait until you get the registration for the firearm to take it to the range.

You will be able to take it to and from the range. Be sure to have the registration and your new pal when going to the range.

If you need to take it to a gunsmith or mail it out for warranty work you will need to call for an ATT for that.

That is about it. All you really need to do now is wait, and the wait is crazy long right now.

Congrats! Next thing that will happen is the RCMP will send you a new PAL, and on the back it will say conditions attached. The piece of paper your new PAL comes with should have the conditions in a cut out portion. That and your PAL is your ATT for most purposes like going to the range.

At around the same time or just before this, you'll get an email from the RCMP notifying you of transfer approval. When that happens, the dealer who sold it to you is allowed to ship to you.

After this, you will get a physical letter from RCMP with your registration paper that says the gun/serial #/make is registered to you. You are supposed to be in possession of that registration certificate when you have your restricted with you.

Good luck and congrats.

Ahhh I see.
Question. Will I be able to go to any range without applying for an ATT? Or just the one I’m registered with?

If you never shot one before, watch some videos on basic stance / grip / trigger control, etc.

It is very different from shooting a rifle of a bench.

Depending on what you bought there can be a bit of a steep learning curve.

If you can get someone to show you the basics, that'll help a lot.

You will also quickly learn how unrealistic most movies / shows are when it comes to Handgun use. Similar to how Shotguns are portrayed (i.e. : not very realistic).
