I said I wasn't going to buy anymore guns for the rest of the year after I bought my 444 Marlin a few months ago.
BUT...I stopped for a visit at one of the local gun stores and well damn....they had some smoking hot deals on Winchester Model 70's.
About an hour later I'm walking across the parking lot with a box that says Winchester M70 Sporter 300WM tucked under my arm thinking to myself, I really didn't need another rifle.
I had a new 44mm objective scope in mind for it but my base/ring combo from my home inventory had the scope sitting so high it looked funny...took the scope off and phoned Prophet River to order some talley light weight extended rings to properly mount that optic.
The new rings will most likely take a week to get here so being the impatient guy that I am...I'm looking through my optics cupboard and spot a Swarovski 3-12x56 FFP Habicth ...a short while later its mounted on the Sporter and its a perfect fit.
Gun range is closed so I decide to head out to a gravel pit about 10 miles from the house...3 rounds through the gun and I'm dialed in.
Before leaving the house I grabbed a box of ammo I had loaded up for another 300WM but the COAL was to long to feed through the M70 magazine.
I reseated the 180gr SST (76gr RL22) load to 3.340...Sitting on my azz with my elbows supported on my knees I put 3 rounds into less than an inch at 150 yards...I think I'm going to like this rifle that I really didn't need!
