So I bought an AR15...

Pick up a set of Tavor take off BUIS from the EE. ($50-80)

Spend rest on ammo.

When you reach the limit of what your skills will allow you to do with the irons, you'll have saved enough up for a Aimpoint.

Or an Elcan.

Picked up a no-name red dot off the EE for $30 and a set of UTG BUIS off Amazon for $60, out of the box they matched each other on a Colt IUR. With no adjustments or fiddling, all the holes were in the same area at 25yds from both. When time permits, I'll check and zero both to a 100yds. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they corresponded considering how cheap the set up.

I run one of these on my AR...Have been using it for 3 years now and it works great, even after thousands of rounds down the pipe. Change the batteries twice a year since i use it a lot, with no problem. If you're just starting, you can use this on your ar till you outgrow it, and when you decide to upgrade you can use it on something else down the road or sell it.
