So I get a call from an old client of mine...says he has a shotgun he wants me to buy. I ask him what it is and he says it's an 1100, but there is something wrong with it so he'll sell it cheap. I ask him whats wrong and he says come take a look

So I go to his house this afternoon, and I take a look. The gun is minty. 28" mod choke (WHY can't I just find a 26"?) and looks like a million bucks. So I ask him whats wrong with it, and he turns it over ans shows me the shell that has skipped out of the mag and is now jamed the feed ramp....and the action. "No problem" I say as I take it from him....he replies "It's also loaded . I pulled the trigger, but nothing happened so I put 'er in the closet" Well holy #### I think...you coulda said something sooner! So I try to #### it to clear the shell, of course it wont. So I say "Ummm...Bill....you live 1 minute from Epps...why havent you taken it in?" He says, and I quoote, "Bahh...it's been like this for 5 years, I don't wanna bother with it". Translation: "I'm embarrased as hell and scare ####less to put it in my car"

Regardlsess, the guns been sitting, loaded, cocked and ready to go fo 5 YEARS in his closet! So he says "Give me 50 bucks and get it out of here"

so I did.

I Stuck a piece of dowel inside the action to keep the hammer from falling and drove to the range "just in case". So here I am working with ears and eyes on, muzzle pointing downrange, figuring where to start. I pull out the dowel and realize that the hammer isnt cocked....so I break the gun down. Theres a shell in the chamber, and one under the bolt just like he said. I probably coulda figured out what was wrong if I had of opened the box of shells he gave me with it though....1/2 2 3/4" #2's.....and 1/2 "4's...but the #4's had a neat little "16" headstamp:rolleyes:. So he had loaded a 16 in the chamber and one in the mag, the one in the mag slid back, and he had dropped the hammer on the one in the chamber.

LMAO. So I proceeded to put the other 3 1/2 boxes of 12 ga ammo he gave me through it without a single hitch, then went back to his house.
I told him what it was and that it was fixed now, so he could have it back f he wanted. He looked more than a little embarrased, then said "Nah. you keep it. I can't trust a gun that jammed on me" :)

So, stuck with two identical 1100's, I half thought about going to Epps and trading it in.....but instead I brought it in and talked to Doug (gunsmith) about the best way to shorten it. Tomorrow I'll cut it, Monday I'll go pick up a grind to fit pad, and Tuesday it's going to the 15 yr old girl that lives around the lake from me. (Strong interest in hunting, LOVES the outdoors, but a father who works from 8-8 six days a week. Hell of a nice guy, loves his kids...but is always working :() I took her for hunting lic. 'cause her old man couldn't...I guess I'm taking her out for clays as well :).

here's to ya. got a great deal on an 1100 , but your honesty could have lost it for you to. more importantly you got a kid to join our ranks and as we all know ,without them there is no future for shooters and hunters. we could use alot more like you. thanks

Aww shucks. This thread was supposed to be about the humour in the dumb-ass "jam", not the kid around the lake, but thanks.

While we are on the topic of 1100's....anybody know the size of the "O" ring? I'd like to pick up a spare if I can find one and put it in the buttstock for her just in case.

Ryan

yeah. the o ring for 12 and 16 ga. are the same, i've even put a 20 ga. on a 12 ga. gecause there had been alot of corrosion and the 12 ga. ring was too loose. you can get them from any gumsith or gunshop or email k. & e. gunparts kerry_gunsmithshoppe@shawbiz.ca in saskatoon. just tell'em it's for a 12 ga.
