So I cleaned my 10-22 today...

My comment on cleaning a 10/22: You need 3 hands and a full-blown epileptic seizure in order to put the bolt back in.. During one of the whacks to get it back out so I could pull the charging handle back again I ended up badly bruising my hand today. I HATE cleaning this gun

here, i got you a 3rd hand, your welcome.

This reminds me...I am about due to clean mine. hasn't been much of an issue since 22LR has been scarce.

Everything is easy except for the friggin' bolt (at least on mine).. I'm no gun newb. I can do a detail strip of an SKS and put it back together in under a minute. I can do the same field-stripping an AR and even less time with the Shadow. I've drilled/tapped/milled receivers, did a lot of tinkering on the AR, done a couple of trigger jobs (including a top-notch one on the 10/22).. Well, yesterday I achieved my personal best time in putting the 10/22 back together and it was 45min. Most of it was cussing/swearing/praying for the bolt to finally drop in, while holding the charging handle down and emulating a bout of epilepsy. If the Mark pistol's even worse, whoever designed it can go shove it where the Sun don't shine; I'm not touching that with a 10' pole

Try this. Pull the charging handle all the way back and drop the bolt in. Push down on the bolt near the front while you ease up on the charging handle. The bolt should drop down onto the charging handle. Takes some practice but you'll get it then it'll be easy.

Will give it a shot next cleaning.. A lot better than "use the left hand to keep the charging handle straight, while using the right hand to keep the rod down in its place and start shaking the gun until the bolt drops in or the charging handle flies off"

Haha cmon its really not that bad. If you can tell in my video i kind of bind the handle a bit which holds it in place and prevents any shaking fits.

Can't open the video yet.. Do you by any chance have a youtube link? Did some messing around with the flash player that did NOT turn out well.. Youtube works but the rest is a crapshoot. In any case, I have a decent mechanical aptitude and once I've taken something apart and put it back together, it becomes a breeze for me. I can figure out most things on my own... But this is a clusterf***. Might have to do with the tolerances of this particular receiver and/or bolt.. In any case I'll try the method described, might bend some sheet metal to make one of those helper tools.. We'll see.
