So I finally ordered me a M1919...

Marstar used to play with them a bit before shipping them out to make sure they worked.

Weak extractor is a good possibility, although if you are loading your own cloth belts, they have to be exactly uniform. Thats where the use of a belt loading tool comes in handy. If the rounds are even off a tiny bit, they will position the round trying to be loaded into the wrong spot, or bind on the feed guides.

I believe the Cdn extractors will work in these guns....at least I have sold many of them and never had someone mention they didn't work for them.

Good luck, I know they can be frustrating, but it will pay off in the end when you can go to the range and blow off $1,000 worth of 30-06 in a morning. Then again, maybe that is not such a good thing.

X2 on the belt loading . My gun came with 2 used belts & no matter how I filled the belt with 3006 by hand I could not get the gun to function . Would fire 1 maybe 2 then stop or would not strip rnd from belt . When I installed a 8x63 barrel & opened up the feed slots in the bolt for the thicker rim on the 8x63 I went to the range . put in a factory loaded belt of 8x63 & it worked great .
Good luck on finding a belt loader unless you are willing to fork out close to a grand for one up here . Also you may want to check out 1919A4.com . A US site but a lot of those guys will be more than happy to help with info & there is plans there on building your own belt loader

Patience is a virtue when it comes to the belt loaders. I have had a few pass through my hands here in Canada and never even paid close to half of that grand you quote. The one in my collection now is a partly cast brass Cdn C broadarrow marked one that used to function at the Dundurn ammo depot reloading belts. It was released (or liberated) from service around 1995.

Thought you had 2 . what did you sell the other one for ? Not that I will need one for several yrs

A bit closer to the figure you quote.

One thing about the 8mm is it does tend to beat the gun up with it's extra recoil. I have had a few of the rivets (primarily the rear sight bracket) come loose on mine, and both mine and russ's guns show wear on the backplates where it takes a beating from the trigger frame.

Still, and I have said it before, so has russ, letting loose with one of these guns is about the most fun you can have in Canada with your pants still on. Of course, you can shoot it with your pants off too, but that hot brass will leave marks.

I didn't notice that much difference from firing 3006 before I changed to 8x63 . I opened up a spare booster to 3/4" for the 8x63 .I wonder what else the swedish did to there 1919's after all they were firing F/A

the belt loaders are very fickle if the needles get bent your toast .when I could shoot my ca 1919A4 it was a very handy tool .I had 3 just to make sure one was always working correctly.I used to get the needles from a dealer in the states whos name escapes me right now . I sold one on ebay and another to a gunnut I still have 1 left but it is staying in the collection

BTW I may have some spare parts kicking around here BUT most will not fit into your gun because of the machining they did to keep it semi .I think I may have some springs and a muzzle wrench and some other crap .if your interested I 'll dig through my crap

check the top cover springs use dummy rounds and watch VERY carefully

also do you have the correct booster? it wont cycle with the wrong one

took me a few tries to get the right dia hole for 8x63 I finally found 3/4" gave me 100% and lowered the hammering the rnd did to my gun

cycle the parts slowly by hand feel for dragging and such

I got of of stencollectors extractors and it worked MUCH better then the usgi one

Thanks for all the generous replies gents. Haven't had a chance to reply (or play with my toys :() in the last few weeks but got a chance today.

With the top cover open, and my left thumb applying pressure on the extractor and hand cycling the bolt, it will pull the cartridge perfectly... but with the top cover closed and the extractor firm on the centered round, it won't feed at all :/

I checked the top cover spring latch spring, tightened nicely, no noticable difference.

How much tension is 'proper' in the extractor spring?
