Well actually, it was a freebie. Welcome to the club eh? A friend of mine shot a few hundred rounds of corrosive through it and left the rifle to sit for 2 years, why, I don't know. Let's not dig into that. So he tells me she's all stiff and seized and i'm like buddy, you're full of beans! It's a Russian built tank of a little rifle that can survive going to hell and back and still ask for more as long as you feed it vodka.
So i'm getting this rifle and the plan is to disassemble and get everything back to fine working order assuming the bore is still good, but I may as well do something cool with it. It has a Dragunov stock and that's it right now. Muzzle brake maybe? put some glass on it? I'm not an SKS guy so what would you do? My only reason for not buying one before was I found it to be a bit too awkward with the short stock and that didn't appeal to me.

Don't bother with a break ...they can't be used and still lock open the bayonet and also don't actually work well unless you spend $$$ on a really good one and given it's a 200$ sks...no point.

best thing to do is go to hical.ca and get a rubber recoil reduction pad for the bolt.
a tech sight (they fit with near no work and add real world function)
& a smith installed bolt to receiver mount for scope (don't bother with receiver cover mounts they rarely stay stable ymmv)
other than maybe a gen 2 wartak rail for optics, if you don't wanna tap the receiver.
maybe a nice bipod too
everything else is really just for cosmetics and not really functionality
(I wouldn't bother myself with fancy goodies till you see the barrel and shootability)
my 2 cents
pm me for details .if you'd like..have lots of sks experience :)

/It's very small it just help slow the bolt down and a less violent impact on the receiver ..it's about 12$
http://www.hical.ca/sks-tech-ts200-sight/ <<for the tech sight
http://www.hical.ca/sks-recoil-buffer/ << for the recoil buffer
http://www.hical.ca/promag-sks-receiver-scope-mount/ << for the receiver scope mount (the other was called magwedge sorry wartak is another brand)
And the only other thing I would do..is a trigger upgrade maybe lastly.... but I like the challenge of a milsurp trigger
http://www.hical.ca/sks-trigger-upgrade-package/ << for the trigger
hope this helps..these really are the only things that make a functional difference :) (learned after spending way too much on sks toys and goodies)

I would not recommend the bolt recoil reduction pad. It will likely cause more issues then it will solve... Depending. Some SKSes will work fine with it, some will not.

Have it in every one of my rifles....my 1911's and my 10/22's ...never had an issue except maybe a quick shave with a knife for fitting...it's just a rubber pad....but it helps.

Some fitting issues depending on the particular sks...they work fine for the most part ..but often require a lil dremmel fitting. Not really a hassle just something to be aware of...and again...they are pinned anyway to 5 so no great advantage over the use of stripper clips
