What now? Will it come out?
If it matters Hornady die and .17 Remington case.
Thought it was lubed enough. I'm new at this.
Wow was I PO'd.....

More of a kit than a tool, but yep - that's what you need. Also buy some spare decapping pins and a decapping rod in case you damage it (I don't know how the Hornady dies are designed, but it might save you a trip or two to the store).

Hornady makes a kit too... or you can make one yourself if your in a pinch and no stores have them instock.

You need a tap, a bolt, a small lenth of pipe, washer.

tap the stuck case... then using a small bit of pipe... in your case a 1/2 dia brass water pipe would work, use the pipe as a spacer between the bottem of the die and the bolt and washer... all you should have to do is crank away at the bolt and it should pull its self out.

Actually if it is a Hornady die you can send it back to Hornady customer service in Grand Island Nebraska and they will remove the stuck casing for you, repolish the inside of the die and replace any broken parts, such as if the decaping pin broke. If you can live with a couple of weeks turnaround time your die will get back to you like new. Hornady even covers the cost of shipping the die back to you. Call their customer service and they will help you out.

stuck case extractor (nut)

Last week I was reforming some old dominion .308 to 7/08 and for the first time in 15 years and (several) thousand pieces of rifle brass later I finaly stuck a casing . After a little thought I came up with the plan . Some are using pipe nipples and sockets etc. go to your bolt supplier and get yourself a 7/8-14 (unf) nut and a couple of 1/4" fender washers , A 1/4" tap and bolt and there it is your very own stuck case extractor . That, if history holds true to form once you have it in your posetion you'll never need to use it again. Cheap insurance .

run a sheet metal screw into the flash hole.
put the screw head into the vise with the die hanging down.
spray a bit of penetrating oil around the case.
tap exposed lip of die with brass punch until free.
learn from the experience!
;)

Whatever you do, don't unscrew the decapping stem and use a hammer on the stem to beat the case out of the die. I ripped the rim off a 300 WM case and resorted to that method. peened over the end of the rod and had to take the expander off the stem to put the collar back on. Improbably enough, I didn't bend the decapper.

I bent my decap pin on my Dillon like a fish hook. Took forever to get it removed. I'm down to my last one (thank goodness die kits come with spare). Need to visit Epps or order from Dillon eventually. I bend this one and my basement ammo factory will grind to a halt. lol

not many like to do this way.........
but if your in a pinch..just double nut the decapper close to the top then scew it down on the brass to push it out..
and hope like hell you dont bend the decapper:popCorn:

What I did was remove the de-capper completely and then take a bolt down through the die (still in the press) and tap the web of the casing to remove it. I had tried the other ways before of drilling and tapping and pulling with bolts and screws and crap.

Good luck.

Pulled it out tonight with a tap, bolt and socket. Why I didn't remove the pin completly before hand, I'll never know. Broke the pin when I drilled out the primer pocket. Now I have to get a new pin.

Go get an RCBS stuck case removal tool

Should be the second thing you buy after your dies.

I figured a few bucks might save so future headaches. I was in a massive 5.56mm loading routine when I got a case stuck. First one ever, after 12 years of reloading. I will admit, the case had very little lube on it, my fault.

Remember the RCBS stuck case remover and it had my case out and on my way in about five minutes. It should always remain in your reloading kit, you never know when you will need one!
