"Several months ago I picked up a 590A1 SPX from local gun shop and I wanted to do something along the lines of a old style trench gun. Took me quite a few months to find the right stock I was looking for and a correct heat shield. Mossberg Item number: 16335P Heatshield ASM Parkerized for Hvy Wall BBL $38.00 plus shipping (note: its not always shown in their catalog but they have it, call and ask for it, 1-800-363-3555).
Shotgun: 590A1
Stock: 1989 Former Mossberg Police Model 500, (old style corncob fore grip)
Heat Shield: Mossberg's newest heat shield correct for the 590A1 and parkerized
(installed very easily and fits perfect and correct).
Overall, I think she turned out pretty good....."

I did my Remington 870 up for less than $800, including buying the gun new. Magpul stock & forend, plus tube extension on a 26" brought it up to either 9 or 10 rounds, I can't remember. Nice flashlight mount, too.

So I got out to shoot my new 590a1 the other day for the first time.
Ya... I was all pumped up for some plate banging with M9 bayonet attached for the full experience.
Somewhere between shots 1 and 9 it just fell off.
I saw a video on youtube where that happened to a guy so I wasn't surprised, just disappointed.

I checked out some forums in the USA and they say the M7 bayonet stays on because that's what was used when they originally designed the gun.
Maybe I'll pick up an M7 somewhere and try it.
I'm skeptical though.

I noticed the magazine cap is threaded at the front for about 10-32 thread. I figure that's for the screw you need to hold the F'n bayo on.

Other than the bayo thing, the gun ran well. We had a blast. No malfunctions.

Ive heard of the bayo falling off too.^^^
Never shot mine with bayo attached.
I know my M7 fits so tight that its extremely hard to detach. I was worried I would mark up the gun in process each time so don't really use it anymore.
Oh, and that threaded hole on the mag cap is for the sling attachment. They often come loose or in a small brown envelope that owners typically end up not noticing and throw out with the wrapping.
