So I just bought two non-restricted guns at a store

Please retake the course, or if you chose not to, please don't shoot near Edmonton! Join a gun club and follow their rules closely. As for walking out of a gunstore without registration info, I did that last week and will keep the store reciept with the firearm until the paperwork comes in the mail.

During the waiting period I forgot pretty much everything I learned for the exam.

Well, your honest at least. Don't worry about it as long as you remember your safe handling techniques (muzzle direction, safe backstop and trigger finger etc).

The rest comes from research and CGN.

Yeah, I remember all of that. :) It's just some of the legal stuff I forgot.

Anyway, I wish some people would pay attention to my topic on the SKS. I can't figure out how to get the cleaning rod out and I really need to as I fired it today with corrosive ammunition.

Well, I gotta say, notwithstanding what I said above, you should not be shooting your SKS unless you know how it operates. While I tend not to rely on safeties too much, you should know where yours is and how it operates.

Check youtube if your confused about the bayonet.

I have one sheet titled "Transfer Notification (Buyer)" that lists both firearms and their "New Registration Certificate Numbers." It says I'll get the registration certificates in "a separate envelope", I assume this means the CFC will be mailing these to me. Is it okay for me to take the firearms out with this sheet prior to receiving the certificates in the mail? I've already shot one of the guns into a river to test it out.

not the best idea:) like the other fellow said, i like to see my bullets put holes in things too:D but seriously, probably shouldn't do that for your and anybody else arounds safety. I cant say first hand what could happen, but ive heard stories...

I forget a lot of the crap from my coarse also. Although that was back in 96. I don't know how they run it now, but at the time, it was incorporated with a lot of hunting stuff. I don't hunt animals. I am not against it, it's just not my thing. However I remember the SAFTEY STUFF. I figure that is the most important stuff to remember. I also think that asking questions on a site like this is a good idea. A guy shouldn't be criticized for doing it. If I am not mistaken that is exactly what this page is for. If you don't know, keep asking.

Phieas, Three questions:
1) Did you check the bore before you took a potshot in the river?
2) What did you do with your spent casing.
3) Does ACTS or PROVE ring a bell.

If you didn't check the bore or pick up your spent casing you have alot to learn. If you said wtf is ACTS and PROVE than you should find out.

if i were you i would go to the welcome section find a person close to where you live and ask nicely if they would mind taking you out to shoot and get a refresher from them.also i would do this after rereading your firearms book.
Much of what i now know comes from others that were kind enough to mentor and guide me when all i knew was i had a fun time shooting with a buddy who had his rpal and wanted my own.Man did i have ALOT to learn everything from caring for your firearms to learning how to shoot correctly and dispelling myths that i had picked up from tv and movies.
take care and have fun

We are all judged by the actions of other firearm owners. Reread the course material and find yourself a range and a mentor there is a forum here for that if you do not have a good history with firearms. Firing into water is not a good idea.
