So I just broke off my SKS front post...

but first a short story:
purchased a NCStar sight adjustment tool, which broke after 1.5 (elevation) turns.
Purchased the AKFST sight tool, which is steel and beefy instead of pot metal. That did the trick...but too well. I cranked my sight a bit and heard a 'pop'. Looked down and to my horror my post had come right off.

Is this fixable, or do I have to buy a new gun?

Sorry, the post got sheared off of the drum (the part is threads in to)? You should be able to just get a replacement. Marstar and Lever sell sks parts, Williams, Tapco, NEA, and others make upgrades as well.

Did it break off inside the drum or is their a piece sticking out?

It is broken off right where it becomes rectangular instead of round.
 
Diferent strokes for diferent folks I guess. I love my SKS, no better for the price, nearly 4000 rounds and not a problem and good enough out to 100 meters but after that its a crap shoot.{ good enough being 4 to 6 inch groups )
Some pple think 60 mph is fast where others arent happy with 120 mph...............and I was taking the piss :) English sense of humour = lifes too short to take it seriously :)

The drum is the cylinderical piece that the the sight post (the thing in your picture) threads into. What I was trying to find out was can you drift the drum out or is the broken post in the way.
 
The post might be in the way.

I would extract it the way I would any broken bolt - drill it slightly, and then use a broken bolt extractor which can be found at any canadian tire.
 
The post itself, and the rectangular 'base' broke off right where it becomes round and would thread into the windage drum. going to drill it out as recommended.
 
Its not uncommon for the front sight on an sks to seized up, and consequently get damaged. before using a sight tool, a good soaking of peretrating oil and a brass punch will loosen it up to be ready for use with the front sight tool. The tools are not made to fix seized sights, only to adjust ones that already move.

Look for replacement sight at Marstar, easy to fix.
