Multiple times actually lol. It's a 1911A1 unmarked, it used to be blued. I've learned a lot from this gun, and she's been good to me. She used to be an accurate shooter too.

I used homebrew solutions each time. The first time, the zinc phosphating came out great, a nice medium grey, and I shot it this way for months. Unfortunately I dropped a file on the slide one day and put a good scratch in it, so I decided to try to blue it. Didn't go so well, so I stripped the blue and mixed up a different batch of park solution. That didn't go well either, so I stripped that and made a new batch and tried again. The latest park job is pretty sweet, nice and dark, with a good crystal structure (it sparkles).

The problem is, the barrel bushing is sloppy as hell now lol!

I'm guessing that I've etched the crap out of it, and it's junk now right?

Thx!

I'm sure there are many who could advise you on how to deal with the finish.

Not sure how that would affect barrel bushing though. As stated above more pics = more replies.

Sloppy busing to slide fit. Like a mm or more in all directions :(

I think I need sunlight to get good pics. The frame is the original park job I did.

I've done one a couple of mine too, but nothing loosened up. If just the bushing is loose, you could get an oversize bushing from Brownells. I've used a couple of EGW ones. It takes some time, but it's doable with hand tools and patience.

An oversize bushing and refit it sounds like your best bet.

Are you serious about a whole millimeter of slop? That's a WHOLE LOT and I hope you're exagerating. If you're not then did you etch and park the bushing as well? It should still be a nice fit to the barrel as long as you didn't etch it too. And if you did then you certainly want a new bushing which you'll fit to both the slide and the barrel.

If the bushing is loose how is the slide to frame fit! Is there a lot of slop also? I would order a Wilson Combat bushing from Brownell's. But then it is a Norc and any oversized bushing will do.

Slide to frame isn't great, but it never was to begin with. If wolverine had any full size sam thunderbolts in stainless I'd probably just buy one of those lol.

+1 on egw bushings. You can actually order them in custom sizes straight from egw's website too. I measured my slide and barrel, ordered a custom sized carry bevel bushing. It was a perfect drop in fit.
