So I purchased a Type 97.....

If you put it on the adverse gas setting, you can launch casings into space.
Have you tried it with the set iron sights too?

I have the older carry handle version and love it for reliablility and accuracy.

Haven't really played with the gas settings on this yet, and I'm really nervous to do so.

Everything is going well with this gun so I'm worried I might funk it up. Lar-15 mags drop free without modification on my rifle!

Don't change it. There is no reason to adjust the gas setting at all. I have gone through 400 rounds continuously without issues. T97 are generally over-gas. I have yet to see/hear one that is under-gas (may be they exist). I clean the piston area after every trip to make sure there is no build-up. Usually that is the hardest area to clean. The rest is such a breeze. This gun is absolutely fun to shoot I even love it more than my ARs.

I would take it out and put a couple hundred rounds through it before I spent any more money on it. Make sure you got one that works and is compatible with your magazines.
Once you've done that and decided it's a keeper you should have a better idea of what you want to add to it. Once you have a half decent optic on it I don't really know what else someone would need other than a sling unless you want to try to look all tacticool with lights and lasers.

Doesn't the LHG improve the trigger a touch?
Though, a hefty price for doing that.

I got a Gen 2 from Reliable during their crazy sale for under $999 (price matching a non sponsor). Took it out on New years eve and the only mag that I had problems with was the one that came with the gun :) POS.
All other mags ran flawlessly. I was chucking brass 35ft at the 2 oclock position. Big dents in the cases.
I put a 1-6 strike eagle on it, the little Hogue grip cover same as Black Val and the single point sling bolt with MS2 sling somebody had suggested in another thread.
300 rounds through it on a very cold, ice covered Abby range.
I am loving this gun.

Yeah those stock mags suck don't they?

Had some issues with it on my last range visit. Seems to be made of cheap metal that bends every time I load a round.

I'm sticking with the LAR-15 mags from C-Solutions. It even drops free!

Has anyone used the polymer mags?

I had the t97.. ergo’s are brutal but it ran like a champ with no issues.

Pretty much describes mine.

While the ergos do suck, it is very handy once you're loaded and shooting. A lot of fun for a 223 plinker.

Some people have issues with various mags in theirs. I missed out on that as the D&H mags I use have run perfectly with my stock gen 1 T97. Again a fun plinker. I wouldn't get one if thinking of competing etc though.

Best mod is to get the end of the gas selector carefully tig welded shut on the inside, (if your welder is any good the chrome on the outside is still perfect) then drill a 1/16" hole in it

Less recoil, easier to find brass, easier on the gun, and more reliable... Will still cycle fine on the low setting

First few seconds of this video show how horribly overgassed it is

The t97 bolt travels rearward a few inches more than it needs to pick up a new round... Making it completely useless in every way to be overgassed enough to bottom the bcg out
