So I think I'm gonna do it...

I've slowly been selling off my handguns, the goal was first to get down to 10-15 I actually use, then it was half a dozen, and now I'm looking at doing the unthinkable; going down to ONE. Well perhaps two.

I've just been too busy to use them, and the collecting bug's worn off, and frankly these days I just have other uses for the money it seems. So what will I keep, I thought long and hard about it, and odds are I'll probably still end up with two, but only one's staying for certain.

They are;

Glock 20 10mm (The be all, end all, do all of handguns for me)
S&W 627-5 (I just like it too damn much. But that's what I said about my P7 collection too mind you... )

I was there and before you know it I was down to two. A .45 Sig 220 and a 686 Classic Hunter. That was a few years ago and now I'm back at a dozen handguns..........

I would REALLY like to do this...honestly, just have a couple I really use, but I just can't seem to keep the number under about twenty.

Ardent - I sure couldn't agree more about the G20...;)

I think we are all playing "musical guns" with the thought that one day we may be told, "You can keep what you have, but you can't buy any more."

I never hoarded ammo before but now I buy everything I can get.

Sometimes I have fleeting thoughts of paring it all down to what I use... but then something interesting comes along & away I go again...

Ardent,

I could never part with my little family, my loyal and faithful companions, who ask for so little in return. They just want some attention and be put to good use.

For me they are not possessions, but actually are part of my persona.

I do not think I could part with any of them, it would be like choosing which fingers I must get rid of..

Though I respect your decision, I would however implore you to reconsider!

Take your time, and look at the joy of a large familty, in all shapes and sizes each with their quirks and flaws, but all beautiful in motion..

I don't have that many, but what I do is I try to give each gun equal amount of range time :) that way I can't say some guns aren't getting used! BUT I do shoot more ammo thu some guns...;)

PS: what happened to your love for Kimber and P7?

Sold off several P7's and Kimbers over the last while, still really like them and have a couple sitting here pending deals, but I had guns in the safe I hadn't fired in two years. I was up to absolutely crazy amounts of guns and have trimmed back substantially selling both here and locally, I'm getting closer to just having what I use.

Still love the P7 and Kimbers, but honestly, for a handgun the Glock 20, as ugly and utilitarian as it is, does everything they do. It's also cheaper, more powerful, and extremely light. Always works even with no cleaning. I'm actually a bigger P7 fan than Glock fan, but for a working sidearm there's no better gun than the G20 in my opinion. I just realized how many roles it covers and thought, "why the heck do I have all these others???"

Ardent, So you realy like your Glock 20.I Just paid for one today and should have it in a few days.I have heard great things about the G20.How many rounds thru yours? I too am on abig down size,it hurts me to say good-bye to all the safe queens. The price at arms house in B.C. is great for glocks.
Regards,
Dave

Well gotta say I like your Glock choice... I keep my 20 ready for whatever... I figure it's the the right combination of noise and punch for whatever...

Ill take the Colt Commander (you know the one I am talking about) off your hands with the promise to give you first right of refusal if I ever sell it.

Sold/traded most of my handguns away...

A Glock 17 and Ruger MKII KMK512 is all I have now......

For some reason I'm thinking of getting a .45 again....like the Sig 220 I had....or the G21 I had ......or the Springfield Loaded I had......or the Norinco I had....

Don't do it. Keep them, keep them all. It comes in cycles you know -

buy/sell...... repeat
buy/sell...... repeat
buy/sell...... repeat

:runaway:

Oddly the only time I like having everything is when I'm taking new people to the range. They eat it up and it's fun for them, but heck I can't justify the expense of keeping an inventory of "cool" toys just to teach people to shoot and get them excited about it. Honestly those range days are stressful too, getting ready for them and everything together (last time I took a young lady shooting a had so many guns I forgot one handgun case with $4000 worth of guns at the range  Rushed back to find it still there thank god. ). ...so those days are pretty much my only reason to own a lot of guns, and I don't even get to shoot much during them! When you do, you end up discouraging them, and often they're not ready to handle them solo so I end up coaching all day.

Decided it's time to be selfish, just keep what I use, and go to the range solo more. Nothing I enjoy more at the range than a quiet afternoon with just one of my long range rigs, usually don't bring handguns when I go alone. I don't even shoot my G20 much, it's just my "one handgun" if I had to choose one to do everything. The 627, well it's close to that status too, does it all and built like a tank. Just prettier.
