Hi all,

I went to Target Sports this past Sunday to check out the new NEA 14.5" rifles (which I liked) and had the pleasure of shooting a 10.5" suppressed AR-15 - my first time shooting a 10.5", or a suppressed gun. Part of the admission was donating to a very worthy cause, and being entered in a draw to win one of two NEA AR uppers or a trip to the SHOT show. Well, I received a call today from NEA and to my very big surprise, I had won an upper! Awesome! Alas, I was in the office so I had to temper my enthusiasm quite a bit. Anyway, I chose a 10.5" CQB upper, and since I have never had one before, I've got a few questions!

1. What type of buffer and buffer spring should I try? I've got an H buffer sitting around, but should I have an H2 instead? I assume a carbine length spring is sufficient?

2. There was some gas blowback I was not used to when I shot the suppressed 10.5" AR, and while I know it is suppressed and gas blowback comes with the territory, is that something I should expect with an unsuppressed 10.5"? If so, is the PRI Gas Buster a way to mitigate that? Anything else I can do?

3. Which optic would you folks recommend? I've got an Aimpoint PRO on a 16", so I could move that and buy something for the 16", or I could go the Aimpoint T1 or Eotech route.. my concern with the Eotech is related to the gas blowback (if there is any on an unsuppressed gun), because when I shot the suppressed 10.5" which had an Eotech, my cheek weld was higher up my face, and the gas kept hitting me in the eyes (despite the safety glasses)..

4. Flashhiders/compensators.. recommendations? I'd prefer something that isn't loud!

Thanks :) And yes, I'll post pics of the upper once I have it!

Congratulations. Aimpoint and Eotech are both great. It's a matter of opinion really.

The can is full of hot oil and fumes and it makes the blowback a bigger issue than it should be.

Without the can it should be fine.

It's our pleasure. Thanks for helping to support a great charity.

.. The gas blowback you experienced is a result of the suppressor. It is not something you will experience in a standard 10.5" rifle.
