So I want to build an SPR-clone and I need some help! :D

So like the title says I want to an SPR-clone upper receiver but I've got no idea what's out there for parts and I've got more than a few questions.

I thinking about get bits and pieces here and there and cobbling something together once I have everything I need. Basically I've got no idea where to start and I need some guidance.

So far I've got a stock stag lower with collapsible stock that I may or may not put a custom trigger in.

Help! Please! :D

I could do without the KAC rear sight and uber expensive KAC free float quad rail. I think a PWS comp is in order. :D

I noticed the bolt carrier appears to be different, I think it's made by Young Manufacturing or some such. Is there much accuracy to be gained from going with a special bolt/bolt carrier such as that? What about custom fitting of barrel to bolt that some companies advertise?

I've been googling around and I've heard some names come up such as Douglas, White Oak, Rainier. Do they make decent barrels? What's available up here? What benefit would I get from a .223 Wylde chamber?

As for glass, I'm thinking a Nightforce 2.5-10 in a ADM mount from Arms East? Am I on glue to want a combo like that?

Anything else that might help with accuracy?

Would my choice of upper make a difference accuracy wise? I'm thinking of your regular 175 dollar jobby compared to something like a larue that costs 300.

I'm open to suggestions!
 
If you can find someone here in Canada that can start with a Shilen / Krieger etc blank then that would be a good Canadian option. I think it would be worth the wait importing a good SPR type barrel .

Brownells is about he easiest to export with . You can get a Shilen / Krieger / Saber

IF you are willing to grin and bear the wait and hassle, then Noveske , White Oak, Centurion Arms, Satern, etc

Once you have the barrel then any decent upper with your choice of FF will work. I think DD is the easiest to get up here. KAC FF you can probably order through One Shot Tactical . Not certain who you can buy PRI from here

I have a thing for the Mk12Mod0 SPR even though its old school with the goofy ARMS 38-SPR rail and PRI FF. If its not your thing go with a Mod1 w/ KAC FF
 
Im building the same thing. So far I have the following stuff.

LMT lower- need to source a 2 stage match trigger
Spikes 18 upper, vortex, Lothar SS barrel
Atlas bipod
PRS stock
Atlas monopod
KG sniper grip
NXS scope
Larue 1.93

I thought alot about lower power glass. I went with a Nightforce 3.5 x 15 x56mm instead.
 
Yeah, I did mine up to be a Mk12 Mod 0-ish type, wasn't too overly concerned for being 100% for "proper" parts.

My barrel is still shiny mainly because at the time I was too stoked to try it out once I finished it and didn't want to be bothered with blasting and cerakoting it, probably should get on that now.... :p

.223 Wylde is probably the best way to go, if properly done you have an
acceptably accurate chamber while still being able to shoot 5.56 safely.

Float a good barrel. The rest is gravy.
The upper receiver doesn't matter and neither does anything else.

Rich can hook you up with a damn good barrel.

what trigger would you recommend? A book I have says its either Geiselle, Knights or Jewel 2 stage types. ANything else worth looking at?

Whats the minimum you think you can set the second stage for in break? 2lbs?

I have a Jewel and Geissele Hi Speed with Match springs. The Geissele is the by far my favorite for a bench shooting range gun. Trigger can be adjusted on the 2nd stage SCARY light ( 4 to 14 ounces !! ) . Its too light for anything else

The Geissele DMR would be a better choice for a SPR type ( .5 to 1.5 lbs...which is far more reasonable )

Geissele is very easy to adjust but requires some fitting when installing so if you are not familiar with FCG don't do it yourself

Suprisingly my stock RRA NM 2 stage is pretty good even compared to the Geissele.

Not going to bore anyone with the details but most of these AR 2 stage is not like a good bolt gun 2 stage. Compared to say a TRG / AI trigger on bolt gun, 1st stage on AR style is much heavier, 2nd stage being much lighter. The exception to this is the AR Gold trigger
