It was/still is pretty grimy. I've almost used up a .30 brass bore brush trying to get that filth out of there. I don't know what it is, but it sticks like crazy.
I used Mineral spirits at first (for the cosmoline), hot boiling water, then a lighter oil/de-greaser, followed by some 20 rounds at the range. Came home, used an ammonia based liquid on it, and another degreaser, and it's still coming out black, and sticky.
I ran out of patches to keep cleaning it with.

For a dirty bore, use JB Paste, or a rubbing compound for car paint (Crappy Tire has it).
Scub with patches and rubbing comp. and then leave a copper solvent in over night. Repaet each day, until the copper solvent does not come out blue.
