would I be able to take my grandfather's old rifles and shotguns with out any paperwork? I think his guns are not even registered anymore since he hasn't used them in years

You will still need a Possessions And Acquisitions License, or possessions only (PAL POL), to be able to posses the firearms yourself, as for the registration, once it is gone then you wont need to register the firearm to anybody, and depending on the firearms, they may be restricted or prohibited you will have to look into that.

You are correct. After the LGR is dead, anyone with a PAL make beg, borrow, buy, sell any non-restricted gun without any paperwork.

FYI ... Current provision in C-19 is that a prospective "seller" can call the CFC to verify the legitimacy of the "buyer's" PAL status. And even that will not generate a record of the search on that buyers name. It will be a simple and painless world again for non-restricted owners.

so if I have my pal and the gun is not restricted , I could just take it nice

Even with the registry, I am sure you could register your grandfathers guns to yourself (if he passed or is ok with it), or he could register them, then you can still take them if you have a pal.

The registration certificates don't expire.

IF they were registered, they are still registered.

And of course, to be in legal possession of them, you still need to have a valid firearms licence.

Bill C-19 does nothing to the licensing requirements/regulations.
