I've come to this conclusion after the purchase of my GSG 1911..
I've owned a CZ75 for a while, it fits my hand well, but the 1911 is absolutely perfect for my grip size..

Now, in the future, probably 3 or 4 months from now, I'm planning on purchasing a 1911, I've read great things about the SR1911 from Ruger, but they seem to be rather difficult to get a hold of. The Remington R1 has been out a while, and I'm sure by this point they've worked the bugs out of that line.

So, I'm planning on buying a stock gun, and doing mods, I won't buy a Norinco.

Would the R1 be a good decision?

I've owned a couple of .45's and I love my Norinco 1911 A1C. It is outstanding...It fits perfectly in my hand and it is accurate as old heck...It is what has led me to believe in the 1911 frame. Laugh if y'all want but I love it.
My next buy is a Chiappa 1911 style .22...2nd gen is supposed to be outstanding

I've been a 1911 fan for many years and my the only ones I've owned are Norks. But soon I will be buying a "big boys" 1911. An Sr1911 if I can get my hands on one. Or I'll save and get a Kimber Eclipse custom2. Drool.

Check out the Iver Johnson line. I believe they are assembled in the Phillipenes with American produced parts. A friend has one of the commander models and it shoots nicely, fit and finish is also quite good. They start at the $600-$700 range and there are a few different models available.

I own both R1 and SR1911...........buy the R1.

R1

Got the basic R1 and like it - a lot. Trigger getting smoother with use as reported in the current "Book of the 1911".

Spend the extra bucks and get the 'enhanced' version if you can find one. All the reviews of this model praise it.

I picked up a SAM 1911 a while ago and love it. I find the finish on it a lot nicer than the norcs and they aren't much more expensive at all. I think mine was around $500 and with a trigger job and new hammer, the pull is smooth, crisp, and around an awesome 2.5 pound pull. Really accurate too. For the money, an excellent 1911. Would highly recommend one.

same here for me i have a SAM in 9mm and love the only thing i found i had to have done was white dot the sights other than that everything said in the above post is right on the money and i have about 5000 rounds through mine

I bought a slightly used SAM Commander-E .45 for $400 to my door and am really pleased with its performance, reliable, accurate and the fit and finish is top notch. I take it to the range every week and put at least 50 rounds through it, I also have an original Colt 1911 made in 1917 which is also a great shooter but I don't want to use it as an every day gun so the SAM takes up the slack.

Mine is also in 9mm but I only have about 2000-3000 rounds through it so far. I'd say best bang for your buck though.

My recommendation for the OP, "Buy it, build it, love it."

I love my Sig Sauer 1911. Resting on sand bags, it groups very tight. Fit and finish is flawless.

The norc is reliable, cost effective and always goes bang. My Sig and a buddies norc are pretty close to the same round count, around 2k. His norc is getting peening on the locking lugs, my sig is still sharp enough to pass the knife-finger nail test. Both his norc and my sig are lubricated with grease, Mobil 1 XHP 462 moly. Ammunition comes from the same source.
