Long, crazy story behind this one. I'm so smitten by my girlfriend that I'm already making plans to marry her.

She's on record as saying she'd rather not get a flashy diamond ring if it means getting more guns into the house (Doesn't everyone wish they had a girl like this?)

So I'm thinking about getting a sequentially numbered set of handguns. Same caliber, make and model. Some custom engraving, and voila! Perfect gift for the girl of my dreams to ask her to spend the rest of our lives together.

She's a fan of polymer guns. The blockier the better. Glock, XDs, those ones. I'm a bit more of a "purist" being a 1911 die-hard, with a penchant for liking BHPs and SIG.

My girl is already interested in taking up IDPA, so of course, any included accessory kits would be a nice touch. One of the reasons why I'm leaning towards the M&P and the XD lines. Even money says the guns will be in either 9mm or .40 for ammo cost, and low recoil. I'm already mostly set up for loading .40 as it is, seeing as I just have to tweak my 10mm dies a little bit.

The only downside is cost. This is a huge investment... especially for a guy on a limited budget. I'm also doubtful that any one of the dealers here would offer a discount for buying two guns at the same time, though it would be VERY nice.

Any suggestions I run away as fast as I can, as well as any jackass remarks will be ignored. This is a big deal to me, and I'm just asking for some pointers from my fellow handgunners.
 
Just a thought, ever look at getting two STI 1911 and get them built with a custom serial number? Or even SVI? It's a bit more pricey and takes a while but i mean if this is something to be special then why not make it a special pistol(s)? :)
 
Well, if you could get her to lean towards a 1911, then you could go with two custom Dlask pistols and have custom serial numbers if Joe still offers that as an option.


Get her a 9mm and a nice .45 for yourself?
 
wow, she is a keeper, no rings just guns? sign me up! id go for the dlask option as mentioned, he makes very nice pistols, and why not shell out the extra $....2 months pay would make for a nice pistol(s) my g/f LOVES my 1911 they are heavy and recoil is reduced greatly. she is a very small girl. sure glocks look cool, but they suck to shoot! cant beat the accuracy of 1911!

Having met your young lady, I think she's pretty well a keeper. Might I suggest instead of trying to do the nembered sequencially thing you simply consider having the slided engraved with both of your names and the date of the get together. That way the cost would be way less and you would still have the thing done. Kinda like a tatoo for a gun!!

Just a thought. By the way she has not e mailed me for the match dates yet!

Oh yeah... I'll remind her of that, Scott. Things have been rather hectic for both of us at work the past couple days. So much so I ended up with a DOOZIE of a sinus attack last night that forced me to call in sick. I'm online right now because me sleep pattern is messed up.
 
I bought two G17's from a Canadian supplier about a year ago... the ser. no's are sequencial..

I didn't ask for it, but that's what happened.

I suppose if you contact a dealer who has actual inventory picking guns off the shelf with sequencila numbers shouldn't be that big a deal...
 
We have lots of guns with sequential serial numbers. The problem is getting two different types with them or getting a gun engraved (I assume you are looking at decorative, rather than text engraving).

Any of the dealer (or Police Ordinance) could probably get you two glock with sequential #... If she could be convinced into a 1911, Dlask could probably do special serial... as in His-1 and Her-1

If there is one gun in the world that fits this bill perfectly its a custom 1911 of some sort.

Asking her to marry you by presenting something like a Glock or XD is kinda like buying her a fake gold ring from Wal-Mart. You want something presentation-grade that you will keep for the rest of your lives. Don't buy her tupperware.
 
wait a couple of weeks and you can get the "special" engraving virtually hassle free..:rolleyes:

Humm... maybe this is the angle the CCW crowd needs for Canada! :D Call it an infringement of your freedom of religion to ever be without your wedding gun! :p Hey, nobody ever says boo about Kirpans anymore (or turbans, or crucifixes, or yamakas/kippahs, burqas, and Hijabs... except at Winnipeg Judo torunaments and Quebec soccer tournaments)

First off congrats on your fature marriage and your lovely girl friend. If she like plastic gun, then get a pair no matter XD, M&P or Glock and ask the deal if they can get you squentilly number. They are good gun and cheaper to buy as you are on budget. You can always buy another pair of expensive gun in the fature. Don't ever buy anything that she doesn't want for the marriage.

Do the classy thing and get the girl a ring. You can still get matching guns, sequential numbers, engraving, etc... It just doesn't get you "off the hook" from spending three months salary on a diamond engagement ring.

I know she said she didn't want a flashy diamond ring. If money is tight, spend $10K on a 3/4 ct stone and ring. Something that size will be far from "flashy" (even if she has very skinny fingers).

As for the consecutive numbers, should be pretty easy. Decide on the gun and ask your dealer. As long as it is a current model that sells in any sort of volume, it shouldn't be hard to pull off.

I would get her a ring too. It doesn't have to be super expensive. If you go around sale season you can get 15% minimum off, I bought my girl a ring on sale, $3,400 bucks, it's tasteful, white gold, she LOVES it, I bought it because it has a Canadian diamond and hid it away until I was ready to pop the question.

In regards to sequential serial numbers, that sounds like a really sweet idea, I know Police Ordnance can do it for you because they provide Police Services with sequential serial numbered Glock's all the time. In regards to the engraving there are a lot of options, check out the Glock Talk forum, there is a gentleman there who'm you can send your slide to with a design or ideas and he will do you right.

Also, check with local trophy shops and engravers, you would be surprised how many police services go to these places just to get little messages inscribed in retirement gift Glocks "25 Years Of Service" etc. now, these are never fancy (like graphics or tattoos) but you get the text with typically a bit of stylizing/shaped font, best of all, it's cheap on the pocket.
