Are there sanctioned IDPA matches in Ontario that are about 1-2 hrs drive from the GTA. i looked at the idpa canada website and the only scheduled matches are in the windsor, chatam area. are there sanctioned classifier matches near the GTA? i have been shooting IPSC for a while and aside from joining IDPA, what are the requirements to shoot sanctioned matches in IDPA?
The Ontario provincial match is the only regular sanctioned match I am aware of. All classifiers are sanctioned in a way (they are shot according to specific stages and gear and guns and ammo must be IDPA legal)
This years Ontario match is in Kingston AFAIK, to shot a sanctioned match you must be an IDPA member and have shot a classifier in the division in which you compete in the last 12 months (unless a master class shooter)
You have to join IDPA first. You can do this from their website. After this you need to shoot a classifier and get classified before you can shoot a sanctioned match.
The IDPA NSO (new shooter orientation) is a one day course that will be helpful as well.
it's crystal clear i have to join IDPA, can someone point me to links for the schedules for matches that have classifiers and dates for NSO courses? is there a internet link for match schedules? all around the GTA area please.
Most clubs have NSO courses and classifiers on an as needed basis. I'm not sure when East Elgins next NSO course will be, but we'll be making a point of doing classifiers throughout the summer in advance of the provincial match
I am working on holding an NSO course as we speak. Will let you know as it will be in the GTA.

I must raise my feelings on IPSC up a notch after shooting my first indoor match at the Phoenix Club in Edmonton.
The six courses were very 'urban' with lots of hatches, crawling and reaching around corners.
Even loading/shooting while handcuffed to a table was cool.
Still, nothing beats the thrill of an IDPA 3-gun shotgun door breech!

By your definition a martial art is a game.
Any martial art that is expressed as a sport, that is; with trophy's for winners, weight classes, rules/restrictions about certain types of techniques, time limits etc. is a game. It may share the same genetic material as a martial art expressed solely as a combat method....where there are no rules....but it's still a game.
I doubt that sport Karate (or whatever your flavor) would teach you any more about real combat than IPSC or IDPA would.
