So it's a brand new Remington 870 Express - and it jams...

very common with new 870's, you need to polish the chamber as there is more than likely a bur or two in there in there. Also seems to be common when using cheaper ammo.

Lose the crappy Wally-World special Federal shells, for one.

Common issue with the Express models is a slightly rougher chamber. The combination of the two gets your jams. That's all. Get your chamber honed and some better quality fodder.

Really though, ammo should not be a problem. The gun should fire everything you feed it without jamming. My Fabarm does. The chamber is the real issue, not the ammo. I feed my Fabarm the cheap stuff for just general blastin' because I can afford lots of it. :) :shotgun: :shotgun: :D

Just to double check...

When you guys are saying "CHAMBER" do you reffer to chamber of the barrel I have on the gun at this particular moment? (because I have three different barrels but have tried only one so far)

or you refer to some flaws/problems in the ACTION part of the gun?

well theres the fastest way to narrow it down, take another barrel and run some shells through it.

Had same problem with my brand new Winchester 1300 Defender. Got better as I worked it and eventually pretty much cleared up. I guess it polished up some rough edges.

It may be a slightly rough Express chamber, but I would hazard a guess it is the uber cheap Federal shells as well. I stopped using them in all my shotguns, including 870 Wingmasters, Express, Benellis and Brownings.

That said, any new shotgun is going to need to be broken in. The Express, with its rougher finish will necessarily take a little longer than say a highly polished, blued Wingmaster. After a few weeks afield, my latest Express now has an action as smooth as glass. For you guys buying shotguns and rifles to certain price points, I dunno why you are surprised when the more inexpensive product doesn't perform to the same level as the more expensive model immediately out of the box.

Check the price of new Wingmasters compared to Express models. In a lot of cases, it is DOUBLE the price! Something has to give at the price and it is finish and polishing. Use good quality ammo and if you find a small burr, a little patience and some polishing compound will take care of the problem.

I would have said that the chamber needs a polishing. 1 in 10 rounds may be a little excessive though. Did the sticking shells get easier to eject over time?

My current 870 operates flawlesssy now but I had to bang the stock on the ground with slight force to release a few shells when I first got it. It was about minus 15 at the time and cold may have contributed to the issue.

The biggest cure is to stop using Wally World/Scrappy Tire cheap shells. The alloy/steel bases is causing most of the problems. Brass base only - not brass coloured.

Right, my bike should run on low octane fuel, but it burps and farts and backfires. A motorbike should run on all types of fuel. My lawnmower does. I feed my lawnmower low test gas 'cause 94 Octane is expensive.

Maybe it's Federal? I bought a box of Black Cloud to use last Fall. It would hang up after firing and caused the slide to stick, and it only does this with that one brand of shells. I've ran Kent and Winchester steel through it, plus cheapy Wal-mart Winchester and better quality Western shells with no problems. Perhaps the brass is softer on the Federal brand or somthing.

I am laughing at all the "loose cheapo wally world specials ammo", blah blah blah.

My mossy 500 eats abso-f**king-lutely everything i give it with no problems whatsoever.

So maybe it is not the ammo that is the problem here ;)

PS
i have not cleaned it since i bought it about 6 months ago, too
